This is just about the best lens I have used on the M8. The wide open performance is brilliant, and stopped down it's sharp.

In 100%, I can clearly see the house in the picture.

The lighting on the top was changing rapidly.

This was on Black Mountain, Rancho San Antonio Preserve.
 
I have not shot with the Nikkor 8.5cm f2 on the M8 yet- we are now getting some nice weather.

I found the "so-called" 75mm framelines on the M8 are Perfect for the 85mm focal length lenses. Try the 50/75 Adapter with the lens, gets very accurate framing.

darn glad i found this stream, as i was just viewing some wonderful photos taken with this lens on an M8.

Nikkor 8.5cm f2 on the M8: how do you do it? does it normally fit? or what type of adapter is needed? and do you happen to know where such an adapter can be found?

The Leica Thread Mount version simply required a standard LTM to M-Mount adapter. The 75mm framelines are a great match for it, so get the 50-75 adapter. It uses 48mm screw in filters, Canon made a Hot Mirror filter for 48mm. It also uses Series 7 filters if you get the lens hood.
 
Vince and Brian: Thanks so much for your input (and education). I didn't know old Nikkor had LTM.

Brian: You have this lens. What are your (initial) thoughts about it?
 
The lens is one of my favorites, and it is Sunny again outside. I will be taking the LTM lens for a Spin. The Canon Hot Mirror filter was $20 on Ebay, and I used it with the Canon 85/2 on the M8. I also have the Nikkor 8.5cm f2 in S-Mount and in Contax Mount.
 
Not to resurrect TOO old a thread but..
I recently picked up an 85/2 Nikkor-P in LTM (serial 295xxx)
Though everything I read indicating 48mm filter thread.. it appears to have a 50mm on it somehow..
Came this way, and I can't manage to get it back off.

Filter is - Kenko Haze ( UV ) (/) 50 sc KH1/23

Any thoughts?
 
The filter is mint so I don't mind leaving it on.

Just wish it was more.. removeable :)

The front lens group/head seems to rotate with the filter, making it more difficult to try and remove the filter.

Need a couple of those rubber jar grippers maybe..
Any other tips?

Still don't understand how the filter is even on there in the first place.
It is standard 48mm right?
 
It could have sections of the filter thread cut and and then pushed down to decrease the total diameter. If you really want to remove the filter a very tiny drop of light oil with a toothpick between the threads might help loosen it.
 
use a cut up bicycle inner tube.

I'm a bike mechanic & I've sourced a few very nice old punctured clement latex tubes which work extremely well for this.
I take one long-ish length of tube and tightly wrap it around the lens barrel, close to the filter. With another tube, I either tightly wrap or just use it to grip the filter ring & twist.

I would never use any penetrating lube on a lens, not even a drop. No matter how much you try, it will seep down via capillary action & possibly end up between the elements. This is why lubes in lenses are never oils, always greases instead.

I picked one of these beauties about 6 weeks ago, and I absolutely adore it. I was even lucky enough to find one in black, with the original hood, for a fairly reasonable price. It's a pretty incredible piece of glass. I haven't coded it as yet, and I was wondering if others have. If so, what did you code it as? The closest I have seen while exploring options would be a pre-APO summicron 90. I also have to wonder: does coding matter as much for longer lenses as it does for wider lenses? Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated. Thanks and happy shooting!

Man, I've been looking for a black one for a while now! The chrome one is really good, but it's seriously heavy....
