I recently acquired a Nikkor S 5cm 2.0 in F mount. The lens is from a late 1963 production run, just prior to the change to the six element H. The lens has the six blade aperture, is in good condition for its age and is currently being cleaned. I also have a Nikkor H 50 2.0 from a 1971 production making it a good pairing with my F from the same era and is a good performer on the Df. Has anyone used these lenses side by side? Any comments on optical difference or handling are appreciated.

Just got these two lenses (50/2 S & H) as I once again explore Nikon F territory.

Not overly thrilled with the F mount 50/1.4's I've used in the past, but the non-ai are relatively inexpensive, value lenses and good for B&W work.

We'll see.

Agree about the S 1.4. I've had several but always preferred the 2.0. When the lens returns from the cleaning and lubrication, I'll do a comparison test on both film and digital. I already know the knurled aperture ring was a big upgrade from the flat grooves.

The Nikkor 50 2 is the best 50 lens Nikon ever made. I have owned many versions and they all imaged beautifully. Never saw any difference between them. The lens is one of the few lenses Nikon made with smooth bokeh. Nothing bad to say about it. One of the best 50's I ever used by any manufacturer.

The Nikkor 5cm 2.0 has returned from the shop. During it's absence, I was able to learn a few things. Most important was it is not recommended for use on the Df. When mounted it extends too far into the mirror box and could impact the mirror. Here are a few images to compare the H and the S side by side.
