I must be missing something. This eBay auction for a Nikon RF mount 50/1.4 has a BIN price of $3000. My exchange with the seller:

Q: I'm guessing the BIN price of $3,000 for this lens is a typo? From what I can tell, the market price should be closer to $300....

A: take another look, and realize what lens this is, Robert Rotoloni's book The Complete Nikon rangefinder will help
The lens looks like a run-of-the-mill medium-late NKJ example, nothing special. Or is there something magical about this particular serial number?

Oh, interesting! How can you tell it's aluminum? Visibly duller finish than the chrome, or does the serial number tell you something?

Never mind -- a bit of googling and it turns out there was a small run in 1955 that had aluminum bodies. Since those turned out to be not so durable, I can see why one in good condition would be such a rare collectible.....
Thanks,
Ari

Whew! Wish they still made Nikkors like they used to... whether it's worth $300 or $3000, it's a lot better looking than my others!

interesting comments about the list way on my lens, I did not put Aluminum in the list because it would not matter, It won't sell on ebay, ebay is not the right market for anything rare, It will probably end up at Westlicht, the best offer i received for a 5cm 1.1 hood in the box on ebay was $500, that was from 4 different bidders.

is the lens worth $3000, who knows, the last one that sold was at westlicht w/ the premium it sold for $2262. the lens was in the 3582xx range. my lens is 358061. 1st confirmed Aluminum is 358055.

at the local camera shows i had offers quite a bit higher then any offer on ebay.

i listed both lenses and some other items on the sales page on this site. one lens sold, ( the guy never sent the payment though). No offers on any of the other items!
