the lack of magnification is not ideal, but no metering or AF is ok. I am not shooting many sports these days.

does the preview on screen or in lcd show blown highlights or a histogram?

ampguy, not sure if you read this whole thread, but the camera does not recognize any non nikon mount lenses, and thus does not meter nor provide any focus aid, even magnification.

no histogram, no exposure or focus support of any kind as far as i remember...

No Histogram or any exposure metering in manual mode, no focus assist either. The brightness of the viewfinder kind of changes with opening and closing of aperture, but do not know if proportional to any exposure. You get the shutterspeed indicated, and number of shoots left, battery etc. So very basic, or crippled system.

nikon 1 doesn't make any feasible sense at 800usd (although at around 270 for a nikon v1 is desperate move). while the sensor is only 1stop better than the previous generation of prosumer cameras(lx7, xz2), they are only 2 stop less than the very best fuji xe1.

together with the build quality and responsiveness this camera is decent on photos that doesn't require shallow depth of field. all nikon need to do is to give exposure bracketing, dslr style UI on screen (as option at least) and other minor firmware tweaks i can't see how this little beast can fail.

target the price around e-pl/nex3 and we have a winner, but we might have to kill off the d3x00 line, something nikon/canon are hesitated to do even when the tide is turning against them

First photo with a new Nikon 1 V1 with 10-30 lens; for AUD$227 I couldn't resist it as a point-and-shoot upgrade to my LX3. Low watt overhead lights, iso2000, 1/15 handheld @f5.6 (wide open at 30mm), some subject movement-blur, NEF processed in LR4. Nice tones in this difficult light for a point and shoot.

lynn - have fun with it! They are great cameras despite the fact that Nikon got the advertising and price a bit wrong to start with. I certainly hope they keep coming out with more lenses for the system.

I now have an adapter from C-Mount-, M42, Leica M- and Nikon F to Nikon1 and the EOS-to-Nikon1-adapter's delivery is pending.

You CAN use the V1 with manual lenses. It's not that hard!

Hey, that is an amazing piece of glass! So compact, so fast and so good!

Every V1 user should have one.
