Nikon 35Ti-- non-fill flash?

Hi all,

I took my first roll with a Nikon 35Ti a few months ago, but really only used the flash in a recent roll in December.

I disabled the flash so that it only operates when I press the teeny-weeny button using the camera's custom settings.

My issue: in the recent roll in which I was able to see what the flash can do, I noticed that the flash seems to only operate in fill mode as opposed to a 'regular' mode where the background remains dark, albeit the subject is more brightly lit. This obviously resulted, in my case, in photos with well-lit backgrounds but with blurry subjects.

My question: Is there some option in the custom settings to have regular or fill flash? Or is it only programmed for fill?

used 35ti briefly (flash always off), until managed to drop it :bang:

Does the 'effective' subheading under the "Auto Flash Mode" denote some sort of distinction between regular and fill flash, or does that just mean that Auto Flash is enabled? I would think that it just means that it's enabled, and so my question remains.

Shutter speed control with the Ti's flash is detemined by the A or P setting around the shutter button collar. In low light flash use with the camera set for Aperture Priority AE (green A), the shutter will go down as low as 1/4 second likely resulting in subject blur if not stationary. This is slow-sync flash. In Programed AE (red P), the shutter only fires at 1/30 sec. and this should be used in low light flash to get your desired result of brighter subject, darker background. In bright light, forced fill can be used to reduce shadows.

I noticed on my 35ti that in low light, it reads "L" for low light instead of "30" even when set at P and autoflash. Is this how yours displays in the VF? The one roll ive shot with it so far...all of the flash shots look like the shutter was closer to 1/4 instead of 1/30th regardless of setting.
