Nikon 35Ti vs Hexar AF?

Gotta give my vote to the Hexar. Had the 35Ti for a couple of months and preferred the Contax T2 even though I considered the 35Ti to have the sharpest lens of any compact I've owned. I just didn't like the handling of it.
The Hexar would be a good dedicated film camera choice, if you don't mind the larger size. The lens is excellent and could well be considered to be an AF Leica.
 
The Hexar has InfraRed focussing.

It is able to focus correctly in pitch black circumstances and fire the flash to get the lighting right.

It shows a mural in charcoal, made some 150 years ago on the limestone walls of the cave. This is lit with only the guide's petrol-gas light. I shot wide open, Kodak E100G slide film, 1/10th shutter.

The Hexar has a 290-step AF system.

No camera beats that!

I'll just add that Hexar's AF system with 290 steps sounds very good , but not like the figure is unrivaled.
For example, Olympus Mju-II has over 400 steps, and Nikon 35Ti has 833 steps...

Anyway, my Yashica T5 got "only" 160-step AF, and I haven't found that a limitation, either. I guess the point is it has to focus fast & accurate--in which Hexar AF definitely ranks the top.
 
I have the 35Ti, which I think produces better images than the error-stricken Leica Minilux that it replaced. My only complaints are that the manual controls are tiny and the flash button is so small that it can be hard to find when shooting blind. There is also a slight shutter lag, and the camera will sometimes go 'offline' for a second or more when rapid shooting until the fill-in flash recharges.
 
I have the GR1, Hexar and 35Ti amongst a few other nice P&S cameras - it's a product of not being able to afford them in the 90s but giving in to GAS now as they are cheaper.

I use the Hexar most as it does feel like I have to think more to take the picture and it is a wonderful quiet camera with a brilliant lens. One of my favourites on any camera. and of course it takes filters (46mm).

The 35ti to me is very well made with the analog dials at the top that look so cool. The lens is fabulous with a different charater - the nikon look for sure. The flash button is quite fiddly. Matrix is good. But despite its great build quality it is more p&S because of the finder and the wind on is a lot louder.

The GR1 is also realtively loud. Once again a top lens. I have a 20 by 16 print I am more than happy with. 28mm is a more natural FL for me and it is truly a take anywhere option. You can get limited filters with an adapter. I use the GRD a but more now though.

The contax T series with a sonnar is something I haven't yet had the pleasure of owning.... but it's on my list ;-)

Over all if I had to sell it would be the Hexar that I'd keep. Happy decision making!
 
former user of Leica CL, take the 35Ti because the Leica fall on the ground... :-(
Pros: small, ultra sharp lens, very good metering system & autofocus. Is possible to under/over expose...
Cons: silent shutter but noisy winder, shutter delay (push shutter release button...autofocus...than shot).
If U use fast films (200 iso or more), problems in using the lens wide opened, due to the shutter performances...1/500 is too slow.
The finder is to small respect the Leica.

I think I like my Hexar AF more than my M2 with 35mm lens on it... did I really just say that? I think I did-- and I don't regret it.

(When I want pocket-ability, I use my Olympus Stylus Epic... forget the Nikon)
