OK no laughing at me chaps. I have just decided to scan some negs and when I get to the main screen, something has happened to the preview scan box for the film strip. All I used to do was click on it and I got three small images to look at. Now all I can get is a scan of the first neg only, no preview is possible. And the second and third images will not scan.
Can someone please help me here. I have obviously hit a button or something like that.
Cheers,
James.

I'm no expert on Nikon Scan but I seem to remember there being a button above the neg showing (or at least in that box) to bring the thumbnail view back.

Yes, I do need to re install the software.

But listen to this, I emailed Nikon and asked them for a service price. Told them nothing wrong with it, just wanted it cleaned and serviced. The answer was .........

WE NO LONGER SERVICE THIS SCANNER

talk about a **** company, NIKON is obviously not in the business of maintaining its products after a reasonable length of time. I hardly use this toy anymore, used for two years and then it has been sitting idle for the last seven except for the odd scan.
I am totally disgusted with this company, I have a 35TI and a Coolpix that could not be repaired, the TI was in the thousand price range a waste of my bloody money.

I'm not sure exactly when the Nikon Coolscan 8000 was discontinued, but it must have been earlier than mid 2004 because that's when I started looking into buying a dedicated film scanner the Coolscan 8000 was already gone and the new options available at the time were the Coolscan V, 5000, and 9000. So the Coolscan 8000 was discontinued at least 11 years ago. How long do you expect these products to be supported after they're discontinued?

Edit: According to this announcement, Nikon released the Coolscan 8000ED on June 29th, 2001, and according to this announcement, Nikon released the Coolscan 9000ED on February 14th 2004.

FYI the following is quoted from another Coolscan scanner thread:

Alex Ketzner in Florida services and repairs them.

reasonable length of time.

14+ years is a pretty unreasonable amount of time to expect service and support on digital products, especially one that was superseded by a newer product. Look to smaller independent folks as suggested above to do work on the scanner. Or just sell it, I have a friend looking for an 8000 or 9000, fyi.

I love my 8000 and its rattling! I'll keep it as long as possible - I've read that most problems can be fixed with a DIY cleaning job.

I owned a Fuji Lanovia Quattro scanner which I bought from Fuji. New they were in the $40,000 range. Just after I bought it they totally got out of the scanner business and discontinued all support and parts were no longer available. This was within a couple of months from my purchase.

You got 11 years of service.
