Nikon adapter

You can get an adapter to mount Nikon/Contax lenses onto a Leica but not the reverse. I suspect that a Nikon RF could be modified to take Leica lenses, but some real machine work would be required to remove the bezel, helical, and make an LTM mount for the camera. Positioned properly, the RF cam would pick up the lens.

The weirdo adapter on eb.y is interesting but can't be functional as anything but an extreme macro lens.

The problem is that Leica lenses are much closer to the film plane than an SLR allows. You can make an adapter, but the mirror box on any SLR gets in the way.
Similar issues with Leica to Nikon/Contax RF mount. The Nikon/Contax has a bit thicker body to start with, and the built-in focus helical prevents you from being able to mount a Leica lens at the correct plane for infinity focus. You can, however, do an adapter in the opposite direction. If Zeiss has any class, they'll offer a line of reasonably-priced Contax-to-M adapters for their new camera body to make it backwards-compatible with their classic lenses.

Good point. I knew it was too good to be true.

That adapter specifies that it's an "EL to F" adapter. EL-Nikkors are enlarging lenses, so those might not have a focus issue on an SLR.

The photo he posted with a 35/3.5 Nikkor mounted on the Nikon F is very misleading. I emailed the seller as to whether the Nikkor focused properly and this was his reply:

Hello there, NO NO NO, This adapter allows to mount a
Leica style M39 to ANY Nikon F body mounted devise, It will
not allow to focus in infinity, I`m showing a RF lens as an
example,
Some lens will focus, I have used a Nikon EL-Nikkor 63mm
on a nikon D2, and was able to focus to infinity , just by
turning the lens in the mount ,
Please again understand this adapter allows to mount a
lens only, NO WARRANTY ON HOW SOMEONE WHOULD LIKE
TO USE IT

There was an adaptor made by a third source (Cooke?) to use Leica screw mount to nikon rf bodies. These are extremely expensive. Steve Gandy had a source in Japan, but I think it was close to $1000 for it. There is another one that goes to a Contax body, it seems that the same guy should be able to make one for the Nikon set up.

Every so often one goes up on that auction site. You have to read carefully, some have focussing linkage, others don't.

I have one of those LTM to Nikon F mount adapter. With the mirror up, and lens in collapsed position, Might Work! They are to use enlarger lenses on Bellows units. It just so happens that the Canon 50mm F1.5 without its rear module will focus to infinity with the adapter on the Nikon.
