Nikon addiction problem...

Just purchase a mint 99% new black F 1973 model today with the standard black prism and the black FTn prism. I don't think there's been more than two or three roll through it. I has been stored in it's case in a closet (no mold) for decades. The owner bought it and shortly after passed away and has not been used since. With it came the case and a 50 f3.5 AI micro in pristine condition.

I don't believe the FTn prism ever had a battery and don't believe it was ever on the camera. It's still in the original box.

What makes me think the body hasn't seen more than a couple of rolls is there is no evidence of the back having been removed much. It's still tight when you remove it.

I'll post images later.

Oops! Hear it is.

They're rare and especially at a good price. You would hate me even more if I told you what I paid.

A few years ago I found two pristine chrome bodies with 50 1.4's and standard non meter prisms in the same condition for $250 each. One came with the clip on coupled selenium meter. i kept one and sold the other.

I do love the old F's and F2's. I have the two F's now and a nice F2 plus a FTn Nikkormat that's a user and a FT 2 that's very nice that a friend gave me.

I didn't show the FTn finder but it's just as nice.

I have to be honest, even though I liked the look of F's and I had both chrome and black versions, I didn't like them in use. I disliked the sharp body edges and the film loading was a pain. I also used to always rip sprocket holes at the end of a rewind but maybe that was my loading! The F2 for me is a much improved user friendly device just by being rounded off and having a swing back. To me the F3 is just the nicest M/F Nikon made and probably the most reliable.
After saying that I don't believe anyone could ever be disappointed with any F line camera and a decent Nikkor or two.

F /F2 /F3-P's/FM

Can anyone recommend a reliable Nikon repair shop in the US?
My F is dead and the film advance clutch in my F2 is starting to slip (out of a 36 frame roll it usually jams around frame 28).

The F3-P's just keep humming along.

thx

Give ya $50 for it. It IS old, you know.😉

My collection is modest at the moment, but... Love me some old nikons. Thinking about getting an FG as a kick-around travel body

It would take a little more than that to get it. I only have a couple of cameras that I'm attached to. One my dad gave me, one my wife gave me and one I've had for decades. Other than that there's always another toy that can replace it.

Wow, What a User Collection!!!!

I am piker compared to Post #1
But, yes, I am only buying Used Nikkor's for my FE... But, I also can use them on my E-M5...
love the duel usage with a mirrorless camera...

Like, when I got my 50mm f/1.8 Ais Long Nose, I also gained an excellent 100mm f/1.8 FOV for my E-M5...

I wasn't an addict at first.... but, I noticed, after using them for a while...
I had to use them more, and increase my addiction 😉

I bought and sold a bunch of Nikon bodies and lenses.
What is left is my F3, here with a converted / adapted Leitz 200mm Telyt

You might try
Vermont Camera Works (www.vermontcamera.com). Small reliable shop in Pittsford, Vermont which does a lot of older stuff, lots of Nikons. They have a bunch for sale too, including some F's. They do estimates on line.

I was just there today, and resisted (with some difficulty) getting another Nikon.

OK, I must confess I did buy a Mamiya RB65 with a couple of lenses and stuff. But by golly I did not buy another Nikon! Yet.

I used to have F, FM2, FM2n, F2 and F2AS now only have FM3a and F3HP with lenses; 35 1.4 AIS, 50 1.4 AIS, 45 2.8P and 105 2.5 AIS. I have not used these for a while, maybe need to dust it off and go out shoot.

My little collection is as follows -
FM2n chrome
FM2/T
F3hp black (prism & chimney finders)
MD-4
MD-11

I also had a refurbished F3/T but sold it in a fit of temporary insanity. 🙁
I'd really like to get a Nikon rangefinder some day...

I primarily shoot Nikon AF cameras (D600, D700, F100 and N6006) but just recently got my first MF Nikon: a somewhat-brassy F3 with a 50 1.8 AIS and 35 2.8 AIS. The GAS is strong... haha. I find myself looking at the manual-focus Nikon page on KEH a little too often now.

I started with a Nikkormat FTN which came with a non-AI 43-86/3.5 zoom for $37 (shipped) on Ebay. Now I have a Nikkormat FT2, F90x, N90s, FG (2),FM, and N2000 all in roughly the same price range. I bought the first Nikkormat mostly out of curiosity but I was really impressed with how smooth the mechanics of the camera were. I like the FGs because they are light and compact and I like the ergonomics of the F90x and the FM.

The shutter on my first Nikkormat has jammed and I am debating whether it is worth getting it fixed. Both of the Nikkormats have jumpy light meters. Is there an easy fix for that or should I send it to someone?
