Nikon buff!!!????

OK... I have to warn you! I am a nikon buff....Soooo DO NOT take it seriously.
I am fairly new here....Sooo heres my .....
I guess looking at my name you know what I am about!,,, I am a Nikon Idiot.... I own a Nikon Msynch(not need to rub it in Brian), 4 Nikon S's, 1 Nikon S2, two Nikon S3(one is new). Nikon S4 and a Nikon SP.....I have used about any Nikon SLR you can imagine....I see guys with names such as Nikon B..... posting threads on Leice site..... Let me tell you something... I am a Nikon guy and as long as I have been here, I have NEVER EVER even looked at a Leica thread!!!!!... I am such a Nikon Idiot that I can't even look at Canons!!!! Soooo My idea of a camers is????.... Nikon... I don't know any lenses that can match a Nikkor...Leice, Contax, Zeiss, Canon, Zunow.....What are you talking about? Nikkors??

Hey, you are not alone, here or anywhere.

As to Canon v. Nikon.

I remember a salesman at B&H (obviously a Nikonian 🙂 ) who referred to Canon lenses as "ashtrays"! 😀

Most of my Nikons are SLRs but I proudly own a S2 and now a (needs CLA) S and "working" on my first S3.

In addition to 13.5 and 3.5 Nikkors plus 85mm and 28mm Cosina S-mounts I also now have 3 (yes, count 'em - three) Nkkor 5.0cm/1.4's.!

Does anyone know where I can find some rear lens caps for these multiplying 5.0's? :bang:

I cannot keep buying "bodies" to use as "ersatz" rear lens caps for 5.0'! The better half is understandably getting worried and thinks she needs to obtain some kind of "restraining jacket" for me to wear - or something to that effect.... 😱

But you know something? These darn 5.0's take some damn fine pics! 😀

I have no caps for my normals either... the cheapest I have seen is $50 bucks!!! what does that tell you??? Nikon rangefinders are NOT sensible... in fact you have to pay more for a nikon cap than some of your Canon RF lenses!!!!
Try that with your Leica!!!!

All of my Nikon gear is SLR related so I speak little of it here. I go mainly for the pre-AI Nikkors when possible. Love the optical qualities of that old glass.

Actually, I think the glass up to and including the AF-D's is excellent. Certainly the AIs and AIS's are top quality.

The G-stuff is plastic trash and I think Nikon knows that - whcih may be why the new D-200 is backwardly compatible to the older glass.

But this being RFF - I agree with the original poster - boy, the RF Nikkors are amazing!

I wished I had bought the old Nikkor stuff years ago. In those days I had no idea, however. Personally, I'd go with the Cosina/Zeiss Nikon stuff today. Probably better; and better means nearer to best. 😎

I have no argument with that. My 50/1.2 is AIS and I have a number of the AF-D lenses.
What I like in the pre-AI are, in particular, the 35 Nikkor-O and the 20 UD-Nikkor.

I will only touch Nikon SLRs but I really like the Canon rangefinders for their Leica screwmount. I never really thought I'd be getting a Canon and liking it so much. So I was a Nikonian in a previous life...the life before rangefinders. 😉

Sorry, but that just isn't true. The G simple means the lens has no aperture ring. It doesn't affect optical quality. While it's true that it is often used on cheaper lenses as a cost-cutting measure, it's also used on all new top-of-the-line lenses (among other reasons because it provides better weather sealing).

I wouldn't call the $4500 AF-S 200mm f/2 VR IF-ED plastic trash...
