On the nikon coolscan 5000 do yo need the fh-3 film holder to get the proper result when scanning negs.
Just curious as this is another $40 you would have to spend on an already pricey scanner which should include the film adapter.

Thanks

the FH-3 works better on curly negs so i've heard. i have noticed w/ the SA-21 strip film adapter, the scans at the ends of the rolls usually have significant deterioration in the corners. i'm gonna grab one this week from Vistek.

Its crappy build quality and DID come as standard with the 4000ED. However, personally, I find it an absolute necessary requirement for getting good scanning results.

I got a FH-3 when I ordered my 5000 ED from vistek, but it took a couple of months for them to get it in stock. I haven't used it yet though!

I'd pick it up since you just probably dropped $1000+ on the scanner. I've used it but I typically don't for everyday scans. Adorama had them a year or so ago for about $25.

I've never used one.. but for only $35 CDN I may pick one up this weekend from Vistek here in the T-dot

Cheers,
Dave

You'll need it to get sharp corners. But first flatten your negs by stacking a few books on them (use a book as a base) overnight.

It's the best scanner still in production this side of the Nikon 9000ED, but for the life of me I can't understand why Nikon doens't make a glass carrier for it.

By the way the glass carrier for the 9000ED is $350-500...
