I have been scanning slides with the MA-21 slide adapter. I then put in the SA-21 strip film adapter to scan negatives. Both were working just great. I mainly use VueScan in Linux for scanning. During my last session of scanning negatives I took the cover off the scanner and cleaned the mirror (a fairly simple process). Ever since then the scanner no longer recognizes the slide adapter. I thought it may be an issue with Vuescan and Linux so I booted into Windows and tried to scan slides with the Nikon software that came with the scanner. Same results. With the slide adapter installed and a slide inserted the scanning software tells me there is no slide in the scanner.
Any ideas what might be going on? I thought that maybe I didn't reassemble the scanner correctly after cleaning the mirror so I took it apart again but can see nothing, no switch or anything, that lets the scanner know that the slide adapter is installed. The adapter is a very simple device--no electronics, switches, etc. Any thoughts on how I can fix this be great. BTW, the negative scanner works great like it always has. Thanks.

I decided to take the cover of to look the thing over again to see if I had missed something obvious. While I had the cover off I decided to try it. Everything worked fine. So, I put the cover back on and, you guessed it, it didn't work. I took the cover off and again all worked as it should. Grrrr. So I put the cover on without any screws holding it on and it worked great. I put the bottom screws back in and again it worked fine. So I put the remaining screws in and you guessed it, it work great. Go figure.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad you solved it. You helped someone down the road.
