Nikon Coolscan V Ed film stuck inside

Hi all,
I have a problem with my Nikon Coolscan V Ed, unfortunately I had the film stuck inside the scanner and the dedicated nikon software doesn't release the adapter so I can't extract the film (already tried to switch it off & on as the manual says).
I wonder if there's a way to solve this problem ... does anyone already ahd the same problem and can give me some useful tip?

are you using the strip adapter? i think u can pull out the adapter, open it up and rescue your film

A good news,
I switched off both computer and scanner (I had already tried a couple of times) and when i restarted the nikon scan 4 software gave me the right message and unlocked the adapter, so I've been able to extract the adapter and recover the film... pheew!

...but then again I reloaded the film clicking on "show thumbnails" then selecting 3 frames for the preview but again I got back an error message but, this time, switchin off&on the scanner (as the manual recommend) the film has been ejected ... pheew again!

... so I checked the film, there was a frame with no image on so I cut the frame, reloaded the film clicking on "show thumbnails" then selecting the same 3 frames for the preview and finally got my shots perfectly scanned!

I have the same scanner, and most problems of this type seem (for me) to arise from software conflicts in my PC. It works fine with my laptop, but with my desktop PC I get regular errors requiring reboot. I've found the strip feeder can be fussy about the borders on the negs - as you have found it likes clearly-defined frames. I've found it likes to have a clear border leading the first negative, but isn't fussy about the trailing border being trimmed close. The scanner will tell you when your fixer is exhausted - it will reject the negatives! And I have some film (old Kodak 2485 Traffic Surveillance film) that it refuses to read in the normal manner with the emulsion side down, but it reads them ok if I invert the strip, emulsion side up!

Yes, I too had some problems when the borders (also on the short side of the strip) of the film are not perfect or when the frame is not clear: it didn't acquire a couple of frames with very heavy backlighting, in fact while trying to scan those frames I had several error messages requiring reboot ...
Chris, I'd be curious to see some frames of your Kodak 2485 Traffic Surveillance film ...

Nico, if you use the motorised film loader and the film gets stuck like that, you can switch it off and just pull out the loader - it is only an electronic connection.

It's strange that the film is getting stuck, I never had this problem even with strips with ill-defined frames... Are the wheels that transport the film clean? And, do you have the latest Nikon Scan software?

Ive given up on using the motorised loader due to jamming but my recollection is that with film loaded you cant pull the module out. You need to power off the scanner and back on again to eject the film strip.

I've had the motorised loader itself stuck in my Coolscan IV after ejecting a film strip. Eventually, after switching the scanner on and off again several times, it released and I could remove it as normal. Fingers crossed, it's been fine ever since.

On the 4000ED you can, at least with the power switched off. Feels funny when you have a whole roll of 39 frames in your film strip adapter but it works.

Ok, mine is the 4000ED as well. I know I couldnt pull it out while still powered up and also did the off/on thing to have it eject. Never tried to remove it powered down :bang:

... not only, but the dedicated nikon software has to give a prior message that unlock the loader which can be then removed; trying to pull out the loader if it's not unlocked can seriously damage the scanner.
