A guilt indulgence I have is visiting drpreview around PMA time. People are talking up a D3x that would be 20+MP and a 1.1x sensor. Maybe it will happen, but when I Google (D3X) you get a bunch of sites that thought it would be out last big show.
The RD-1's sensor is from Nikon right? I wonder if that Cosina relationship is still active and might yeild a near full frame digital Ikon? Plus aren't Nikon and Zeiss cozy over the MF lenses for the F-mount?
Any chance we might see the technology transfer?
Is there really a chance there is a D3x?

I believe that the Rd-1's sensor came from Sony...Same place as the Nikon sensors but not from Nikon directly.

Since Zeiss has also just announced the same lenses with a Pentax mount - I don't think it is a matter of "coziness". I think it is one of patent expiration!

I thought that Nikon and Zeiss did a co-announcement that Nikon was no longer going to make manual focus lenses and Zeiss was, or was that fortuitous timing?

Mind telling us where Zeiss made the announcement? It's not on their website. Or did you have the Sony Alpha (formerly Minolta) mount in mind?
BTW, it was Zeiss who helped Pentax (formerly Asahi Optical) develop the K mount. They also approached Asahi for the Contax revival before going to Yashica.

I don't know about "just announced", but all the same lenses available from Zeiss for the Nikon F-mount were to be also available in the Pentax screwmount/m42.
There used to be a nice page detailing the ZF & ZS lenses over at CameraQuest, but they've been taken down since CQ cannot carry the Zeiss line.
Gandy also made a post about the D3X or DX3 over at dslrx.

Well, it was Zeiss Ikon Dresden who invented the M42 mount with the very first Contax SLR, not Pentax or Asahi. The ZS lenses are old news also.
Besides, the 85 Planar and the two ZF Makro-Planars aren't offered in M42 either.

just curious
The sensor in the RD-1 is the same as the sensor in the D70. Nikon weiil never go 1:1, and 20+mpxl MWAAHAHAHAHAHA.... Nikon are owned by another company (a pharmaceuticals company), bad sales, bad design and bed revenue have over the last few years made the parent company cut the R&D budget. Its not gonna happen -I know those specs are what YOU want to happen, as I didnt hear any of those rumour except by goons on the forums, and there was no reason for any such rumour to come into existence. I give Nikon 20 years before they grind to a halt.

The above claim carries as much weight as the rest of your post:

Well, that will teach me not to trust stuff on DPreview! I really didn't care since I shoot Canon EOS stuff, but I was hoping on leaking the technology.
Looks like I'm still going to be deveoping film for a while for my RF.

First off: Nikon is owned by Mitsubishi.
Second: Many of Nikon's sensors (ie d200) come from Sony. Its not up to nikon to develop this stuff.

irq: What you actually said was
So you were incorrect as Nikon are not wholly owned by another single company, nor is it a pharmaceuticals company, etc., etc., etc.

I am just going to guess here, that Nikon is working on a full-frame or close to full frame.
The most recent lenses that they are introducing cover the full-frame 35 mm image circle. (70-300 VR) (105 VR Macro)
Nikon is virtually not making any film cameras. All of their current DSLR line up is the 1.5x APS-C size sensor.
If they did not plan on supporting a FF type sensor, why would they continue development on anything other than a DX lens?
Waiting to see what happens.

One need only look at the market trend of prosumer and professional digital slr's to know which direction Nikon is headed.
