Nikon D4H? $3000

this must be the most confusing rumor yet. although it does make me more intrigued, most rumors these days ruin the fun of a product release ... this one definitely has kept us guessing!

it has a bit of everything:
retroness with the styling
techiness with the EVF
pro-style (with the H)
feels like we're being played but i think it's all in good fun 😉

I often wonder if the world has forgotten how simple most cameras were that captured the most iconic images in human history. Not to say that modern cameras are any less capable and have produced less important photographs. Just stating the obvious to people around here.

When I take my GF's Pentak K1000 it never fails that someone comes up to me and waxes poetically about using that camera in the past, and how it was their first real SLR.

Now that digital sensor technology has passed sufficiency and IQ performance has converged across platforms, I thought camera makers would maybe realize a return to roots of camera design would please many who have suffered during the innovation race to produce super speed cameras/video cameras gigantic Do it all black box with a billion settings. Optimistically hoping while cynically accepting the fact that my dream will not come true (although the Epson RD-1 seems to be the one).

how much would you be willing to pay for this type of camera though? clearly this manufacture have to be some kind of limited run and with the cost of the design in the electronics, it doesn't make sense to do an S3 2000 or SP 2500 type of run.

Not too sure if this should be compared with the S3 2000 or SP 2005 run type, but rather with the FM3A one during the last years of the Nikon film cameras glory.

Mutatis mutandis, the price of this "DLSR of the third type" should be, to the present D4 one, what the FM3A price was to the F5 one back in 1998.

At $2000 and with all the "good" features, I'm in.

At $3000 and with too many of the "bad" ones, I'm out.

Now I am hoping that it'll be another casual DSLR having nothing to do with what we've all dreamt of, so that I can fall in love with my D700 again... and keep my cash ! 😀

Here's the front of that super-special Gelded Nikon lens.

i m holding back the A7r order to see what nikon will come up with first, I have too many nice nikkors to ignore it. if it s metal bodied, nikon F styled with split prism, it will be hard to resist. but then the sony takes m glass, the nikkor won't.. where are all the 'leaks' when we need them?

mirror lock

mirror lock

what sense does it make to lock up a mirror if the flange distance is that of an F mount; there are no F-mount lenses that need to lock mirror except some wideangle lenses from the 1960s maybe.

If you mount an M lens on a body with 47 mm flange distance plus adapter; where it the beef?

This does not make sense

what sense does it make to lock up a mirror (...)
It fully makes sense for very slow speeds shots, night photo, macrophoto and very long FL telephoto, to get the sharpest images (no mirror vibrations at the beginning of the exposure).

You people having obviously too many cameras/lenses already and at the same time too much cash to spend on whatever new are really incredible ! 😀

Haha ! Clearly the marketing target is that we call the "bobos" (for bourgeois-bohême) in France ! That is, upper middle-class people who use to go on their own in Glencoe valley (this is obviously where the teaser has been recorded) wearing Marks & Spencer lookalike clothes and a three-days beard ! 😀

16MP sensor and not more, no video, simplified menu, RAW / RAW + Jpeg (fine/large) only, no in-body D-Lighting, no rubber gaskets everywhere, no built-in flash, no external LCD display on top of the camera, 100% viewfinder, all metal casting (including the front panel behind the lens mount) with durable classic leatherette covering, classic speeds, ISO and exposure compensation dials on top of the camera, no grip, simplified Drive modes (no CH mode etc), mechanical lock-up mirror ability, DOF test lever, small body the size of the F3 at the very most, flippable Ai coupling tab so that non-Ai lenses can mount without breaking everything.

Nothing that Nikon can't make. But...

This is what I was expecting (dreaming?) from this camera.
I'm confused now. No need to buy in a short term, I'll wait to see what will happen...many options on the market

The name makes no sense, at least in relation to the features and price you list. And based upon Nikon's naming of previous cameras, the name D4H conjures up thoughts of a high-speed pro camera, and would somehow be an offshoot of the D4, which is a $6K camera body.

I didn't list anything... it's from a rumor site.
