Can anyone shed some light on the new D610 as it relates to the D600? Is the 610 a fix for the dust/oil problems of the 600 or does it have any real improvements. I did read the official Nikon overview etc but I'm not convinced.

Thanks!!

Cynical marketing exercise to distance themselves from the tarnished D600, from what I can see. Nikon's quality control and production does not inspire much confidence these days.

Or an even more cynical comment...

Given that the price of the D600 has dropped fairly rapidly (following the normal trend in new DSLR prices) they needed to bump the price back up again to restart the usual cycle before the D600 price got too low.

On the bright side the D600 should become a used full frame bargain ... provided you know how to clean a sensor! 😀

I have always loved Nikon going back to the 60's. I still shoot an F and have 3 Nikkormats and a D90 ......but the dirt oil issue should have been addressed with honest efforts not the BS I have read about here and elsewhere. The 600 is flawed and they should step up and recall them if necessary.

your right, they should have done that. I really like Nikon cameras I just picked up
a F3, but I don't seem to like there digital that much.

That's harsh. Nikon have made some brilliiant, landmark cameras over the years..
True, but a lot of that is well in the past..

Nikon started to lose me with the D90. Should have been a no-brainer upgrade from a D40 and D50, but what a fuzz box it was. Took forever to tune to get images that even then never got near as crisp as what the CCDs in the previous generation of cameras rendered. Result is that I never bonded with the D90 like with the older ones; I've replaced it with a D70s again for crying out!

Shame they didn't bring out a 710 (70 with d600 sensor) - I prefer the build of the d700 to the 600/610.

If dirt-cheap D600s flood the market though I would be tempted. After all, as Keith quite rightly stated, you just need to know how to clean a sensor 🙂

So far my D600 is not affected by the oil on shutter bug. Don't care too much about dust, it's pretty easy to clone out. And a breeze too, once you got accustomed to cloning out dust from home developed negatives 😀
Also, I'm not affected by resale value dropping either, since I'm planning to keep it for several years anyway. My D1x was on the job for 9 years 😎

While I hate those things for their size, I LOVE the stuff the D600 produces, those images are fantastic.

was pretty surprised about news of 610. am not very interested about the motivators behind it, but its good news for second hand market prices of 600.

I'm a bit out of the loop here, has the 600 got an issue with dust as well as oil? I've had my D700 for over 4 1/2 years now and it's never had the sensor cleaned OR had any dust on it. I've used it everywhere from mountains to beaches. The only thing that seems off is the command wheel on the front. It's a little bit sticky at first turn but once turned is fine. It may be a mix of salt water, coke and beer, who knows but it still works perfectly after 25000 clicks.
