Seems like it's going to be called Nikon Digital Fusion

Nikon-retro-FX-camera.jpg

Nikon has a page for it & it's called Pure Photography.

Watching the 1st video yesterday, there are 2 sound before his "fire" his shot. I think the 1st sound seems like he is adjusting the aperture ring (using old nikon lens) & 2nd sound seems like the shutter speed knob.

Let see over the next few weeks.

To be quite honest, this has me much more excited than the new Sonys. C'mon Nov.

I have 8 pretty good AIS lenses, including two PCs, but no lust for DF over A7r.

Strike that----would love to try one, but can't see spending 3k on the F mount. A7r is looking very functional with all sorts of MF glass 🙂

A digital SP would be more exciting to me. But, to each his own, and if the DF incites photography, I'm all for it.

My "precious" is a ais 180 ED, which I have dragged to hell and back, and is just a fantastic lens. I had a nice 28/2 Pete Smith cleaned up for me, but sold it last fall. Made redundant by 28 cron, which I expect to be serviceable on A7r.

Also love the 55 micros and have kept 28 and 35 pcs.

I get it; its the Digital F. I'm hoping it has a film use option.
lol

Me too... suprisingly. I don't hate SLRs for having a mirror. I hate them because they are shaped in a way that doesn't do it for me (I prefer no grip). Hopefully this is closer than the blobs we've been used to.

Likewise. I dont even mind the size of a 5d/d700. Its just their shape and UI complexity that kill the joy for me. Hoping this thing is flat bodied and has individual dials for each control - shutter speed dial, aperture ring, exp comp.

Absolutely..... I've hated the design of all Nikon SLR's from the F4 onwards. My Nikon glass has been sitting around unused, except for an occasional outing with the FE2 for years. But a digital F3, FM/FE2, I can only keep my fingers crossed.

Whatsitgonnabe?

Perhaps F3 dates D700 and produces the new one. Looks to big too be the FM/FE style, which would be killer for me. FM2n was/is my favorite. Now if it has the AI ring with the flip-up like the original FM had and mirror lock-up, then it may very well work with every lens they ever made, assuming it can run AF-S G.

That would be interesting. Maybe time to stock up on the better AI's and non AI's like the 85mm f/1.8. Tank of a lens

Overall, it's good to see the innovation that we are now seeing, on all brands. Perhaps it's going to get fun again.

If this camera is F-mount, it probably won't accept other lenses.

To me, the appeal of EVIL cameras is their ability to handle most any brand of lens, Nikon, Leica, Zeiss, or whatever.

Without this capability, the Nikon won't cut into Sony full-frame sales.

IF the Nikon has some sort of removeable F-mount, that makes the flange to sensor distance shorter, then they will fly off the shelves.

Can't be too short.. mirror box,
BUT, if it had a hybrid OVF/EVF, AND a Mirror-Lock-Up
Well, That would a Digital Fusion for sure between SLR>Mirrorless lens use.

Now, there is a novel (sorta) idea...
A Nikon SLR body, with interchangeable lens mounts..

Why, not... how many use the Mirrorless the same way in practice with SLR/RF mount adapters. For Leica, Nikon, Canon, Pentax Glass etc.

From looking at the 2nd video, it looks like an FM2 with a 50 f1.4 AIS lens. Which could sure be call "Simple" or "Pure".

I'm interested in seeing what it actually is.

Would love it if Canon would do something like this, digital F-1 with an FD mount.

Best,
-Tim
