Hey guys,

New to the forum, hello! I've been shooting mostly with a Rollei 35, and recently upgraded to a Nikon SP 2005 (I'm in heaven).

The camera came with an ever-ready case. Image below:

I like this case because it protects the camera body from smacking into things when I'm out walking around. I know it won't save the camera from a fall, but it could prevent dings and scratches.

Unfortunately the leather strap is very thin and I'm not sure I trust it, especially in the long run as the strap gets more use.

Would you guys use a case like this? Or do you just carry your camera naked with a more durable nylon strap?

I have used my Nikon SP since I bought it in 1967.
It has never been in a case and shows some nice brassing on the edges as a result.
The Nikkor 35mm f=1.8 that lives on the camera shows a nice patina too.
The strap is a no name leather job with rings for the strap lugs.

The Nikon F case is my favorite. The straps attach to the side of the case, preventing strap wear on the camera. Moreover, the leather strap has steel liners where they attach to the strap, thus the strap will never be cut through. Finally, the leather strap covers a nylon core. Thus even if the leather breaks, the camera will never drop.

The case has cutouts for everything you need to access, so there's no reason to take the case off except to change film.

If Ihad a n SP 2005 I would definitely carry it in the case. But I most probably would leave the top half at home. This is how I carry my S2.

I would use the bottom half of the case...the strap on the other hand would be gone ASAP...
I've seen cameras hit the ground due to old thin leather straps breaking...also a half inch leather strap can easily slip off your shoulder...if you really like this look at least have the strap replaced with New Leather...

If the strap is not dried out it is totally fine. to check fold
it over itself. if u see cracks then no good. if no cracks then it is good.
