Nikon F desilvering prism. What to look for

this is "share"

Not wanting to derail the thread, but after 'share' there's 'copy link'. When I copy and paste the URL onto the message, only the link appears but not the photo. The link directs back to my flickr stream but not the image in question. Am I missing something?

When you click the arrow icon and it opens the box, across the top of the box you should see the words "Share Embed Email BBCode". Click on "BBCode" and copy the link which then appears.

This is assuming you haven't turned sharing off.

It was described as optically and mechanically perfect.

I just pulled out my Nikon F to compare the mirror to yours. It's perfect. And I didn't make any effort buying this camera, I just bought this one I think from KEH.
I would definitely return yours. The mirror is messed up and it has a dent in the prism. It takes serious effort to dent the prisms on the F, unlike something like the F3 which is made of really thin metal in that area.

If you are referring to the photo, it's not dust, at least not at the edge of the mirror.

I'm talking about the spots you're seeing, that's why I said sounds like and not looks like.

Like this,"It sounds like dust to me", rather than, "It looks like dust to me".

Got it now? You will be unable to see any spots on the mirror when using the camera, because they are out of focus. So, the spots you see when looking through the viewfinder must be something else. Dust, for example.

Hence, 'if' you are referring to the photo. Thank you for the clarification. The spots in the viewfiinder must be coming from the mirror as they remain when I swap out both the screen and the prism. Or am I still missing something?

I'm becoming more inclined to return as you suggest.

Thank you everyone for your insights and help.
