EDIT: Let's make this the Nikon F thread...post your photos, photos of your cameras, discussion, etc!

So I stumbled upon a gorgeous Nikon F recently that I couldn't pass up. It came with the FTN meter, but without a battery. I've heard that a direct replacement for the original batteries is the Wein cell. But for whatever reason, I can't figure out how many of these the meter takes?

Can anyone shed some light on this? Or, if there is a better solution...what might that be?

Thanks!
Patrick

The Photomic FTN finder takes two batteries. And yes, I think the Wein Cell 625 is probably the best choice.

edit: wow, stumbling across Fs must be the thing to do around here...I found one in an antique in Madison a few weeks ago. Haven't bought any new batteries for mine yet...thanks for the reminder!

I still have my black F with Ftn. I use silver oxide's with the cris type adapters to reduce the volts to 1.35 from the normal 1.5v
Such a great camera.

Did you re-calibrate the meter to use those batteries? If so, is it easy to do? I've read a little about it and am not sure if it's worth it or not. Is it something I can do myself?

And that's a gorgeous looking camera in black. Looks purpose built 🙂

The other thing you can do is have Pete Smith at Delray Cameras in Fla modify the FTn head so that it will take !.5 volt 625 batteries, which are still available (if you know where to look). He id this for me, with my FTn (as sell as some other refurb work...).

I've never had any problems using the adapters. Meter reads the same as my F2's, 3's and 4. No calibration necessary. Just put the 1.5's in the adapters, insert and shoot.
