So, I've been trying to restore the brightness of my F with unmetered prism with only partial success. I recently swapped focusing screens with an F3 style K screen and that helped a bit. Now i'm thinking that the culprit could be a severely scratched reflex mirror. Does anyone know where to get replacement mirrors other than cannibalizing other F's? And if I do find one, is replacing it a DIY job?

Mirror was a separate part but, like, 30 years ago. It is held in with 2 corner clamps AND (when I worked for Nikon) was epoxied to the mirror frame. Quite difficult to get a used mirror separated from the frame without breaking it. John

So would I have to find a whole new mirror box? Wish i could find a cheap one for parts but the darned things never die.

They were made to last and last .... and to be repaired to continue to last some more.

There are several broken F's on eBay right now. Check the "parts camera" listing.

And sell the titanium curtains to someone here for their Nikon rangefinder. Joe
