Nikon F100 Diopter Glass Loose

I finally figured out the rattle in my F100 is a loose diopter glass. I can continue to use the camera but the rattle is distracting. So far, I've seen and been told repair can run over $200--up to $300. I could buy another F100 for that price.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this on my own? Like I said, the camera operates just fine without the diopter adjustment and the glass moving around in there.

If the diopter glass is loose, doesn't that make it a bit hard to focus? Anyway, you could always take the top off the camera to get at the loose part, being mindful that there are likely lots of wires connected to flex PC boards and such that may have to be moved out of the way while you make the repair.

Luckily, I haven't had any problems with my F100, but then that means I don't have photos and commentary on opening one up either. Wish you the best on this one.

Every F100 I ever had suffered from this.
The plastic track that the diopter travels on is usually what breaks if I'm not mistaken.

Not sure of a home fix, maybe someone knows.
But it doesn't sound like the fix is worth it from a repair shop.
