Frank, it's missing the removeable door latch open/close key. The key is removed in order to mount a motor drive. Replacements cost about $35 if you can find one. You only need to find something that can turn the base in the "O" direction just enough to unlatch the door. Maybe someone with a F2 can lend you a key temporarily. --Warren

I think Warren is right. Once my latch became frozen. Didn't know how much pressure to apply to open it. Took to Pete Smith. He opened it in seconds, then lubed for me. Wish he was down the street from you. He has more Nikon parts then anyone in USA.

So it's only missing an easily removeable open/close key, and one from another F2 can be used?

yes. They are interchangeable between F2 bodies.
search for this string on Ebay, and you'll see what a chrome one looks like:
"Nikon F2 Open/Close key"

Ah, I see. It just unscrews. Great. So the camera isn't broken, it's just missing a piece. $73 was a good deal then.

If the seller had the MD for it the key might still be stored in the vertical grip.

How do you plan to repair this F2 sir?
Does a battery in the body fire up the meter? (I guess we will see...if it does it is like icing on the cake I guess)
A F2 that works...even with parts missing...very common...a hundred dollar bill will buy you a lot sometimes!
What number did you get?

Looks like the only repair needed is to find a replacement open/close key. The seller described the camera as functioning fine otherwise. (The camera has not arrived, I only bought it today.)

Shooter of Film...
Frank,
You can still open the back door without this piece, the latch isn't that hard to do...
I have the "Key" that you need...it's off a junk/parts chrome F2 that I have...
You do need this part to keep the film chamber light tight...
If the seller can't find the missing key let me know and I'll send this one up to you and any other part you might need off this one...if I still have it or can find it...
The key is four pieces but one unit when assembled and it just screws in from the bottom of the camera...

Hey thanks Sam! I'll gladly pay shipping. I'll give the seller a day or two to respond to my inquiry.
