Hi all

I have recently received a Nikon F2a in need of some help.
I have already done quite a lot: new foams and light seals, adjust prism spring to ensure locking etc.

I would like to repair a few more things, and if people here have a repair manual or some knowledge about dismantle, it would help to know...

1- the speed indicator in the viewfinder is off, and nicely shows between two speeds. Any idea how to reach it from the prism?

2- I know it's a long shot, but the camera is very noisy. The mirror return gives a nice and lasting bell sound. If there is a place that needs some damping added, It would be great (I won't risk much dimantle for this one, though)

3. There is a bad crack in the prism front plate (wearing the "Nikon" label). Any idea where I can find parts?

4- Apart of that it seems to work fine, but if someone knows a quick and dirty clean and lubricate thing (even if partial). Why not?

Thanks!

Michael

The Nikon F2 is easy to take apart, except for the cover over the rewind lever stand. It is glued on, and very very very hard to remove without damaging it. Tomosy's book describes the disassembly. Tricky parts to remove are the ring around the shutter button and ring under the advance lever.

Sounds like you want to get inside the prism finder, to slightly move the indicator dial. Go slow and carefully.

Send it to Sover! He worked on my battered F2AS and it came back working perfectly! I'll send him my F2Sb in the new year...

I just bought a light seal kit from him for my F3 but I don't know if he services the F3, I must check with him...

Gentlemen..
Thanks a lot for the replies.
Of course I know Sover, and he is the first one I asked regarding the label plate (to no avail) but this one is a "cheap trip". I'm mainly and will remain an RF shooter. I got this F2 just for kicks and to use the couple of good Nikkor lenses I have.
It is actually in decent shape and I'm just trying to fix a couple of small issues by myself.
Basically, right now, the next target is to reach the inner speed dial in the prism, and set the speeds to the right place.

Sooo....

Anyone knows how to open the DP-11 prism and how difficult it is to reach this speed display?

The DP-11 effectively is the DP-1 with AI mechanism, so DP-1 instructions should be close enough to get you there - the DP-1 is far more widespread, and so is literature on it. Some time ago I was still able to find a DP-1 service manual on the net.

Great - I'll ask them for an estimate, and see when I can afford it 🙂) to the first bit, 🙁 to the second)

Thanks!

Adrian

EDIT - More thanks, I quote: "The full service price of £75.00 plus post will cover any shutter fault with your F3 and will include recalibration of speeds and auto exposure". I think that's pretty reasonable and will go for it once the post has sorted itself out over Christmas. Many thanks, John!

You can get back to your F2s now...
