Nikon F2's fall from the sky.

Man, the photography students near you SUCK! Out here in ohio, there's only a small group of us but we're all shooting 4x5, scanning on an imacon, and printing digitally or making C-prints in the darkroom. My dad's friend gave me his father's old Nikon F, I don't use it much but it's nice to have, and I would never sell it. Maybe I'll take it out of the drawer today.

I had three beautiful F2s. I gave one to a photography student who held on to it for a while then dumped it off at a thrift store.

He was told by his instructor that digital was the way of the future, and film, particularly 35mm film, was just a little ludicrous for this day and age.

Make sure the person you give a camera to someone appreciates it. When you sell it to someone you can be sure they DO appreciate it.

Interesting answer on the OP's question.... your evil receiver of your gift that violated all written and unwritten rules about a F2 gift transaction did exactly the same as the OP is suggesting.

Next time I give away something I will add a contract too.....:)

How can someone *as an instructor* say that to a student.

I don't care what you think personally regarding film photography, but to have a hand in instructing younger generation *about photography* and cut them off from any alternatives to digital is more than just being irresponsible, it's deplorable.

when cameras where given to me, I made sure with the original owner that it was ok to resell it or give it away down the road.
I suspect you should know if the person gave it to you just as a slightly better option than dumping them or because they thought it would be a nice thing for you since they don't use them anymore.
In that respect, something given to me is never totally mine...

will post in classifieds on Sunday

Just wondering if you were still planning on doing this? I'm hoping I can afford what you're asking as I'd really like to have a backup/teach my son body to go with the F2 I got in December.

Thanks!

I have many 17-18 year olds here wanting to give film a try but do not have the money. If anyone wants to contribute to the growth of budding film enthusiasts, let me know.
