Nikon F6 is already 10 years old !!!

Its release doesn't feel like it was that long ago to me (where did the time go? 😱), but yes the Nikon F6 has already turned 10 years old. It's 10th birthday was October 22nd, 2014, just over four months ago!

When it was released, the digital age was already well and truly upon us, and I remember wondering at the time who would ever think of buying an F6 with so many digital and other film options readily available. Then I owned one briefly about four years ago and realised just how good it was, but foolishly sold it. Now I've just bought another used one in perfect condition. What an amazing camera. I think I'll keep this one 🙂

Without a doubt the best 35mm film camera ever made. An absolute joy to shoot with whether you use it auto everything with an AF lens or completely manually with a manual focus lens. And probably the best SLR I've used for ergonomics!

There's nothing an F6 can't do IMO. 🙂

one of the sales which I have regretted, I was tempted the other day I saw one locally around 750.- which was in used but good shape, but it's not the right moment for me... congrats on the new acquisition.

What is the best screen for non-AF lenses? My F6 needs to go to Nikon for a repair, but in the mean time if might look into a newer screen for my AIS lenses.

would love to try an F6 one day, but the F100 is so good, and the F5 for that matter...I have both in perfect shape, so it may be a while before I get to try one.

I'm still stuck at the F4 level. Hard to imagine a more capable camera, but I know the F6 is superior. I do like the removable prism of the F4 though...wish they had kept that feature in the following Fs.

I just wish the F6 (and preceding Fs) were a little lighter, but then they would not be so good at stopping bullets and hammering nails!

I have never really been a Nikon fanboy but had the opportunity to buy one of these at a ridiculously low price. Knowing that, with patience, I could resell it for a profit, I bought it. Within a week of receiving it in the mail I traded for a nice AF Nikkor 50/1.4.

I won't be reselling it.

I probably shouldn't have used it but, in my defense, I did have to test it. How was I to know? I have tried out lots of Nikons and none but the F were really worth keeping...

10 years...time flies...I still remember when a friend ask me if I was going to buy a digital camera and my answer was that in the Nikon catalog (we were both Nikon fans) there were so many film cameras and only one or two very expensive digital cameras, a clear demonstration that digital was not yet the way 🙂 it seems me yesterday...

I am thinking of re-acquiring a 4, just for old times sake (originally bought one new in '90) because they are very well-priced now.

A while back there seemed to be relatively few on the bay that were in decent shape with the 4-AA battery setup (not the F4s) but there are many now.
