Nikon F6 ... time to move?

Don't worry I know I'm the cause for your GAS for FM3A (I still have it) and Zeiss Ikon (I'll get it asap). Did you ever regretted that ?
p.s. if you can't really wait take the first plane for Italy and I'll gladly lend you mine for a while ;)
I'm sure you will become gladly accustomed to its metallic "lash" click sound.

There's an boxed F100 in the classifieds for $190 - it will do 95% of what the F6 does for 1/6 of the price.

I guess it's the Pareto Principle of GAS - for that extra 5% in functionality, you pay 500% markup. :D

Conus only.

Not for us downunder though! :D

Yes, it does. The F5 with the Mf28 databack is the ONLY way to go with an F5. Still not an F6 though, but a damned good F5! You can still find NIB databacks on ebay from time to time like I did.

Hi Dave,

what does the MF-28 do that an MV-1 data reader doesn't? Would you sell your F5 or D700 for an F6?

These don't share any functionality (other that you can display the MV-1 data frame by frame on the MF-28 and type them into a computer). The MF-28 does plenty of funky exposure stuff enabled in the camera chip but not controllable from the camera body itself -long time exposure, freeze focus, programmable bracketing and some more. And it does between frame data imprint and acts as an extra status display.

Sorry about the Conus only, Kieth, I thought you had decided on the F6 or I would have PM'd you.

I actually think that was God intervening Ducky ... he/she knew I didn't really want an F100! :D

Divine intervention - now there is a GAS rationalization that I haven't heard before. Hard to top that! It's like that scene from the Blues Brothers movie, where they explain to their freind's wife that they are on a mission from god, and putting their old band back together. :)

Even Joe hadn't though of that one yet! :D

Sometimes you have to be creative! :p

has anyone here bought expensive gear from eBay vendors from Hong Kong or Japan? If so, what duty/import fees/taxes did you have to pay, if any? As I noted in an earlier post, there are some apparently good prices for F6's on a couple of those sites that I might take advantage of. TIA

I've bought a couple of items from Hong Kong and a couple from Japan without a peep from U.S. Customs.

Your new F6

Your new F6

I have a roll of HP5+ in it and onother one in the bag and I'll be heading off to the GF's place to annoy her with it very shortly.

After I've done the housework that is! :p

... spent a fair bit of time studying the manual this morning ... and how cool is that little magnetic flap that covers the menu and ISO buttons etc? :D

'bout time we had an update on your views of the new baby in your life! Is the "having" as good, or better, as the "wanting"?
Are you now in the same boat as me, everyday I have to decide ~ basic or hightech, OM1 or F6? . . . decisions, decisions . . . . . . :bang:

You could consider an F4. It has matrix metering, I use all my Nikon lenses on it including "G" lenses (my 24-70mmF2.8), AFD's, AI's and AI'd Nikkors I bought in the '60's. It is an extremely nice camera, perfect exposure, great viewfinder, great controls and the most versatile Nikon SLR out there IMO....and they are cheap.
