Not an aprils fool joke, but wouldn't 2012 be the year for a new F? Given nikons 8 year cycle for the professional F line? The F6 was introduced in 2004, photokina will take place this fall..

Of course it would be against any logic to introduce a pro film body in 2012, but then nikon introduced a SP replica in 2005, or a FM3a even later. Any thoughts on this? Should we hold our breath for an F7. The F line was the pro flagship for the last half century, so i guess even nikon will have some thoughts about this.

Was it stated somewhere that the F6 was the (very) last kiss goodnight for the F line?
 
I agree, no F7. They will put all their pro camera resourses into digital. The F6 will likely be in production for a just a few more years but on a limited basis depending on demand. Non pro cameras will continue to be the FM-10 from Cosina.
 
Perhaps a limited edition F6 with titanium or red leather... Maybe gold? (I'm only half kidding -- they've done stuff like this before).
Is Nikon still making new f6's?
 
It might seem a strange thing to happen, but I could see how it would be in Fuji and Kodak's interest for this to happen, wouldn't even surprise me if Fuji helped bankroll it, if was essentially a D4 with a film transport mechanism, would the R&D be that extortionate?

No need to do that. They invented the F5 almost 2 decades ago. All they would have to do is make some slight improvements to it.
Hell, they could make a digital back (the serial port ready back already exists) for the F5 a-la Leica DMR and most certainly have a winner. They could charge thousands for it and I amongst many others would buy one as soon as I had the cash. (fantasy conjecture.)

That would be a tremendous waste of cash on both the company's and the customer's side. Why would anyone in their right mind want to use an expensive module when it's so much easier to just use two separate bodies.

This says it all really. Very few people want film cameras anymore. And presumably most of those who want an F6 already have one. What could they improve on an F6 to justify an F7? Not much imo.

I'd much rather wish for a digital SP. Maybe there's a better chance of that than an F7....
 
50 a month wow, but I wasn't suggesting that the F7 should be made because of the the volume of sales it would produce.
 
I think a more "retro" F7 would make more sense. Those of us shooting film, on this forum at least, seem to prefer manual, metal, non-curvy cameras to DSLR lookalikes. I think if the F7 was more like an FM3A, then it may do better.
 
If you've ever used an F6 you'd be struggling to think of any way to improve it ... it's as near a perfect automated SLR as is imaginable IMO!

Maybe a Hermes edition ... or in white possibly? 😀
