I've been shooting an FM2 since christmas. I didn't really like it at first, the advance lever kind of got on my nerves because it pokes you in the face as a left eye dominant shooter. But then I got a Mr. Zhou case and a DK-3 eyecup, the combination of these two puts your face just far away enough that the lever never touches you - yet you still see 100% of the frame.
So anyone shooting a smaller Nikon dealing with that pesky lever - DK-3 and Mr.Zhou is your answer.

The FA is a beautiful camera, but unless you need Shutter Priority and Program modes, the FE is certainly adequate. The FA does have Matrix metering (the first body to have it) but it is fairly basic compared to the multi-segmented colour matrix metering that more modern Nikon cameras have (in other words I wouldn't take the FA over the FE based on it).
If it's in the budget, it wouldn't be a terrible idea to get both so you can make an informed decision based on your own experience.

Wrapping the battery [both single 3 volt and two 1.5s] with tape was a very short term 'fix' lasting 3 or 4 days. End of this F3 consideration.
I just ordered a chrome FE as my fall back option. Should be here in 2 days. So now I'll have one in black and this newer one in chrome.

Well done. You now have the best camera, and better still it didn't cost you a penny. Or should I say cent. Or dime. Whatever.
We do "pennies" here too.
