So, I found a Nikon FM in the trash yesterday. Looks nice at the outside, and mirror goes well on all times. That's the good part.

The more bad parts tough.

Setting the shutter gives accurate shutterspeeds, but shows 2 instead of 4, 15 instead of 30 and so on.
Shutter may stay open, or be sticky. Lost cause, or can one fix it? Sense its a dumpsterfind, I really don't care that much, but it is a great camera, and I'd like to use it. Any help suggested is appreciated!

Sounds like someone has gone into it to try and fix something and put it back together wrong. The FM could jam if you cocked the shutter and depressed the shutter button before the wind cycle was complete. Simple fix by just removing the bottm plate. But, most folks tried taking the camera apart to release the jam.

Shutter works all fine again. At least for now. The problem with showing the wrong time remains however. Anyone know a quick fix for that. And also, Sover fixes FM-cameras? I thought he only dealt with F2's?

Does it show the wrong speed in the viewfinder?
Or is the it the actual shutter speed dial?
Where do you see this wrong reading?
How is it at the slow shutter speeds, say 1 second or half second?

The FM is a manual camera, it should work without battteries but no batteries means no light meter.

Yeah. Having an FM repaired doesn't really make economic sense. My biggest problem with the FM was that the finder is pretty dark. The FM2 is much better.
