Nikon Inc. USA?

I just received a 43mm filter for my Nokton 40/1.4 lens which says on the rim: "SKY-1A 43MM NIKON INC. USA"

That last bit strikes me as a little odd as none of my other Nikon gear says that(plus the doesn't quite screw in smoothly on the Nokton). Did I receive a dud? Well it was cheap and is meant to just protect the front glass of the Nokton.

PS: I know the spiel about using a filter only when needed, but I found out that I am a little queasy about hauling around a street lens all day in dusty Chicago without a filter.

There was an article in the NHS-91 journal about this. Wes Loder is the Author.
Apparently Nikon Inc. had "Tiffen" produce a batch of these under the Nikon name brand, just like they had Projectors made by outside Vendors that they sold under their Nikkormat brand.
