Nikon L35AF stuck on self timer mode

hello, I took my L35AF out for some shooting and discovered that the self timer mode is stuck "on" :bang: even though the lever is in the "off" (up) position. Has anyone else experienced something like this? If so, how did you solve this problem? Any suggestions?
