Nikon Lite Touch (AF600) - Fixed 28/3.5 Lens

Does anyone shoot -or- have shot with one of these?

I recently picked one up to replace my T4 (RIP). I'm currently half way through my 2nd test roll, and I'm pretty excited to see the results. Coming from a T4, I opted for a 28mm lens to resemble the shooting experience of my GR1s (also RIP).

I'd love to see some example photos or hear any feedback that you have!

I've had one of these for about 3 years and have had generally good luck with it. Sharpness wide-open isn't as good as a more premium compact (I now use a mju II instead of the AF600, and the former's lens is noticeably better) and you do sometimes get some weirdly colored vignetting, but it's quite good in the majority of circumstances.

My favorite part about the camera, other than the fairly good lens, is its very sensible programming. The lowest shutter speed the camera will ever choose is 1/8, which makes it way more usable in low light than something like a mju II (which goes down to 4 seconds or something like that - totally unusable for a handheld camera). It also doesn't prioritize wide-open shooting, unlike the mju II. So the programming on this one is really its strong point, and when combined with a good lens, it's definitely a keeper!

I have one that I use occasionally. I would say that it is better or equal to 28 on my TVS. Not even close to a GR1 though. I have a dead one of those. GR1's are way beyond anything else really. Coming from a T4 I would say you will be well enough pleased. They are a solid camera and underrated. I've always thought T4's were overrated myself. I have one of those too. Crazy color contrast, but not that sharp.

That's great to know. I read up on some of the camera's features / specifications, however I did not know about the minimal speed of 1/8th. Thanks!

That's what I was expecting to hear. I'm still torn on the loss of my GR1s, that camera was absolutely killer.

The T4 was okay, I can definitely see where the hype comes from, but I think I would go after a Mju-II for a 35mm fixed P&S. The only thing that I will miss about it is the fact I bought it for $3.99 at my local Goodwill.

The buttons on the AF600 are way too small for me and the auto-shut off annoys me. After some time the lens cover opened only halfway when starting the camera, so I had to remove it completely.

Mine delivers nice pictures, sharp, high contrast, with very visible vignetting. When it works - by now mine has turned into a summer camera, prone to jam for most of the year, as the lens often refuses to extend unless it is scorching hot. Reliability does only set in upward of 25°C. Presumably some of the plastics parts have shrunk over the course of time.
