Nikon Mount Leica R Lens w/ AF

This looks pretty neat. It didn't make it's auction reserve, and I'm curious to know what that reserve was. I don't even shoot AF and I want one!

The first version of the Elmarit-R adopted into an AF Nikkor lens by an individual, not by a lens manufacturer so I would doubt about the centering tolerances before anything else. Also the former screw type AF is not the fastest AF of Nikon to provide some substantial advantages over the manual, finally an outdated design with an f2.8 aperture.

Although the reserve has not been met, I still would not be paying this money ($638) at all. A nice 90mm Summicron-R or the late E55 Elmarit-R with Leitax could be a far better adaption to a Nikon for the same price or one of the best portrait lens the Nikkor 105/2.5 was available for one-third of that price. BTW, if AF is a priority then there is a fine 85mm/1.8 AF Nikkor lens for half that price.

Eh, I would've kept the 85mm as it was and used that lens as AF – I think it's a strong portrait shooter, very sharp and good tonalities at f/4.

Keep the 90mm R lens on a Leica R body, or assemble it with the Leitax adapter and use it in manual focus with a D700, D3, or any F body.
