When did Nikon make their last optical brightline finder?

I own the P5100 which is the older brother. Though I like it, it has nothing of a rangefinder so I am pretty sure the P6000 is basically an update with some additional features (Raw and GPS). The viewfinder seems to be a new effect of fashion lately but this is a 4x zoom machine, I am not sure it is very useful. By the way, the built-in optical finder is useless.
I also read that the P6000 raw format will be read only by microsoft software installed on Vista ... just for that Nikon should be boycotted, I don't understand such a silly move.
 
Yeah - I agree with Photogdave. If Nikon had made a half-decent compact I'd consider buying one (own a D70), but with this NRW RAW format, my grade is: FAIL.

I mean, what's the use of introducing a new format if your software (Capture NX, Capture NX 2) won't support it?!
 
I would have jumped on this camera. I have been waiting and reading at Nikonians patiently for it's release. The genius who figured that Mac users can't use the raw files should be castrated. I'll stick with my G9 and wait for the G10...shortly...

I jumped on the Ricoh GX200 instead. RAW is in the universal DNG format, so everyone gets to use it. The Step Zoom 24-28-35-50-72 is really useful and IMHO the external ERV works great in all conditions. Bye bye Nikon on this one.
 
I must say Nikon is being very stupid by not including NEF as an option too. After all, Micro$oft has lost several anti-trust lawsuits based on marketing decisions just like this one.
 
Nikon's new RAW will undoubtedly open with something non-Nikon. Don't sweat it.

I doubt they announced restriction to Vista...which is only a temporary OS for Microsoft until the delayed, eagerly-awaited XP upgrade is rolled out in 2010.

Sorry Macintoshians, but Nikon surely knows you're having trouble with various crucial scanning and printing apps. Yet another new Mac OS is around the corner...

The short 4X zoom range on that Nikon makes sense...Nikon's sensor, like G9's will dwarf the Ricoh sensor...which is almost cellphone size.

Funny isn't it. If this camera had Leica written on it instead of Nikon, everyone would LOVE it, and all it's faults would be seen as fantastic engineering!
 
The RAW file format is the least of your worries with this camera..

I've got a p5100, and if that's anything to judge the p6000 by, it'll have the world's lousiest autofocus. On the p5100, it's either that or the infinity setting. Not very well suited for scale focused shooting. And even though it does try to dress like a rangefinder, it is not rangefindereske at all. It's sluggish and unresponsive.

Its saving grace however, is the well thought out black and white mode. There's settings that allow you to shoot as if you've got a yellow/orange/red/green filter. Let's hope they didn't drop that with the p6000

Sorry but this is completely wrong, the sensor size is almost identical between the cameras:

G9: 1/1.7" (7.60 x 5.70 mm, 0.43 cm²), Pixel density 28 MP/cm²
GRD II: 1/1.75 " (7.36 x 5.52 mm, 0.4 cm²), Pixel density 25 MP/cm²
GX200: 1/1.7 " (7.60 x 5.70 mm, 0.43 cm²), Pixel density 28 MP/cm²
P6000: 1/1.72" (7.40 x 5.55 mm, 0.41 cm²), Pixel density 33 MP/cm²
LX3: 1/1.63 ", Pixel density 24 MP/cm²

If anything the NIkon has the "worst" sensor when it comes to the pixel density.
