I was lucky enough to snag this non to common nikon compartment case. I can not find any literature on this case let alone pictures on how some of the lens and accessories were organized to fit into some of these slots. I think I have the vast majority of it figured put but what is stumping me is the middle L shape and the small square peg next to the f1.1 lens. Anyone have any ideas?

Nikon S2 Compartment Case
Sooner or later, everything goes the way of earthly existence. Oceans dry up, mountains are eroded, and even old Nikon bags become weaker. The strap tab on the bag for my Nikon rangefinder has torn off :-( Spare parts are no longer available ;-) So I made myself a new one. I didn't have any...

Center section holds a variframe finder as Tim points out. The small rectangular hole next to the camera holds a self-timer. The cavity opposite end of the camera holds a hand-held light meter, such as a Weston type. Sync cord for Nikon S in pouch on lid.

That all makes sense! I would have never guessed a self timer and handheld light meter. Thank you!Center section holds a variframe finder as Tim points out. Thanks! It's not perfect, like that post, many or the leather is disengaged from age. Especially the shoulder strap. But it is such a neat case. Some guys have all the luck.

I always feel like I'm using a time machine when I take photos with a camera like this.
What might we look like when we reach the same age as this bag or this camera?

Being the same age as that bag and that camera, I'd say "Not very good."

At the doctor's office recently, it came up: "I don't really know how old I look, but at my age these things seem to happen more frequently."Being the same age as that bag and that camera, I'd say "Not very good."

The nurse who was helping me gave me a long look ... "Hmm. I think you're about 55 to 58 yo. You look good!"
"I love you. You're off by more than a dozen years... 💪 🙂 "
I just wish I could recognize who was looking at me in the bathroom mirror in the morning. 😱

Similar folding suitcases for SLRs were built by the company AKO in Germany in the 1970s and 1980s .
You can still find them on eBay or, at least in Europe, in some secondhand shops.

I'm surprised how loose a camera can be in this case. I guess they only used it in the early models. That is indeed one beautiful setup. What surprised me was how the camera compartment was made wide enough to take a 50mm f1.1 perfectly. I guess they already had the lens design in mind when making this compartment case.Ad for the last version of the Model I. Shows version with leather flop to hold camera in place. I have never seen this version in person. Interior of one of my cases. Note Weston meter and place for 50mm hood. The film magazine place will also hold the 50mm lens.View attachment 4871060View attachment 4871061
