I've been spending a delicious hour browsing through Eric van Straten's lovely Flickr portfolio and am inspired to take up my Nikon S2 again.

But my S2 has a creaky lens helical and needs a new shutter curtain, so I'm looking for recommendations for the best person for Nikon repairs in the UK.

Many thanks,

Simon

I sent two Nikons, S3 and SP, both with capping shutters in January to Newton Ellis Liverpool. By 'phone was assured of a six week turnaround.
Three weeks ago I was assured they would be despatched by the end of the week.
When I do get them back I will be able to comment on the quality of the work.

+1 for Newton & Ellis - I have always had good service from them on gear that nobody else will look at - Retinas, etc.

I think you will be pleased, Chris.

The reason am not upset by the delay is that each time we have spoken they have been open and helpful.
I just want the OP to be aware of the timescale, he is inspired to shoot, it may be by the time its turned around that may be gone. Luckily I have more of the same to shoot with

Thanks for the recommendation Chris and John. I'll get in touch with them.

Your long delay does give me pause, Chris. I've had some nightmare experiences in the past with cameras being 'kidnapped' for multiple years. But if they are open and helpful in their communication, hopefully they'll be able to be provide a realistic estimate of turnaround.

I do have a nice SP to use in the meantime - serviced by the late Pete Smith when I lived in the US - but I'd like to be able to go out with a two camera Nikon rf kit.

I'm three years and counting for a black paint job on an M2, it had a separated prism so I couldn't use it if I had it. Promised for this year, definately

Oh dear, Chris! My longest wait was two and a half years - an ordeal which drove me way beyond distraction. Where is your M2 languishing?

Fair enough, I think. When they worked on my Retina 2C the problem was the cocking rack, which was missing 3 or 4 teeth. New spares for these are even rarer than rocking horse manure, so they made me one. Yes, it took a while, but the communication throughout was excellent.

I had my S3 fitted with a new curtain by Grays of Westminster, they use a technician down the west country for their mechanical camera repairs. It was done in a couple of weeks.
