Nikon S2 Compartment Case

Sooner or later, everything goes the way of earthly existence.
Oceans dry up, mountains are eroded, and even old Nikon bags become weaker.
The strap tab on the bag for my Nikon rangefinder has torn off :-(
Spare parts are no longer available ;-)
So I made myself a new one.
I didn't have any brown leather that was 2.5 mm thick, only black.
But - form, er, color follows function.
I carefully tore off the old tab, drew a paper template, cut it out, glued it together and sewed it back on.
It works.
The original rivets are not hollow rivets that you put together, but solid copper rivets.
I pre-drilled the holes in the new tab for the thread with a 1 mm drill, using the original tab as a pattern.
Now I can happily carry my good old Nikons in the stylish matching bag again.
Just as it should be.

I've been thinking for a while about how I could make dividers for the camera bag.
Out of sheet metal and solder it? Out of wood? Mill it out of an aluminum block?
It's easier with a 3D printer.
There's some space in the bag for the rangefinder cameras and so that the lenses don't fly around, I've made several inserts at different heights and with different dividers.
Inserts for the bottom of the bag and inserts for the top.
The wide-angle lenses from Voigtländer and the Zeiss Biogon fit, and one insert is for the 12mm Voigtländer.
The 105 mm Nikon lens doesn't fit.
If anyone wants a special divider or height, please just write the dimensions here in the thread and I'll try.

I have a Model II with the insert, which I got with my S2, and for the life of me I have never figured out how the camera is supposed to fit inside it. I'll try again, armed with these pictures. 🙂

Apparently the factory design is to store the camera in the bag with the half case, so that it doesn't tip forward - see post #20.
I'm still thinking about a more optimal way to use it to hold the camera with different lenses. Because you would need a different mount for the 50mm than for the 12mm CV, for example.

At least I load them up from my harddisk. I dont have any online photo account.
Klick onto "attach files" and search for the directory where yer pix is lurking around.
I can even go to a plugged in USB-drive.

Once ya've choosen the pix got to "open" ant then tell the pix if ya want to show it in the tread as "full image" or as "thumbnail"

I just found a bag in a shop that was made for the motorized version of the SP.

Nikon SP Leather Outfit Case

Extreme rare, for Nikon SP with motor drive, battery pack, lenses, including the 5cm f/1.1 and acceccories, zip torn, heavy signs of use.

My two bags differ slightly in their interior. (Pictures coming soon). The bag from "KoNickon" has a different interior than my two. It's just small things like the recesses for the lenses or their arrangement.

That would be four (4) different versions.

Bob has never had much interest in the leather accessories for Nikon RF cameras. I have done an article in the Journal on the Type one case. but the cases are not covered in Bob's books.

Here now, finally, as threatened, the comparison pictures of my two similar looking but different bags.

At first glance, there was no real difference.
It was only when I tried out the 3D printed inserts that I noticed that they didn't fit.
But first things first.

Roughly marks the differences at a glance.



In the camera compartment, the mount for a lens is in a different place. And - I admit - I didn't measure the diameter.





In the small compartment the recess for the lens is different.



Finally, the recess at (2) is larger and the bridge / support is on three sides, the recess at (1) is smaller and the bridge / support is wider and on two sides.



What I would like to know now is which bag fits or is intended for which camera model?

I couldn't find any type designation on the bag itself.

I'm in danger of becoming a bag freak ;-)

The type 2 case became available when the Nikon S2 was the Nikon camera. Perhaps modification to account for the SP/S3?

No. There was a type one case, a bensor-type case with clip closure that preceded the zipper case. The two types were sold concurrently before the Type one disappeared in 1955.
