Bill's comment that one should always set the shutter speed after winding the shutter is not true on the S2.
Predicting the shutter speed on The Nikon S and old Leicas was difficult unless the shutter was wound—allowing the index mark to line up with the selected speed. The S2 has an center mark that can be used to select the shutter speed whether the shutter is wound or not. I almost never wind before selecting the shutter speed on my S2, and never have had a problem. Now my Nikon M is another story. You have to wind before setting. WES
