Actually..I have several questions.

1. How do I take off the 1.4 lens to inspect it? When I take it off what do I look for as far as damage? The lens from the front has no scratches...it's clear and the shutter works great. What are the shutter curtains? Are they what I see from the front?

Page 19 on the manual sums it up better than any of us could explain. I'm guessing the camera has seen little use, and therefore I doubt you'll see scratches on the rear (lens always on there). You are probably looking at the aperture blades. You can see the shutter curtains when you take off the back of the camera.

I took it to the Antiques Roadshow and the appraiser there said the body was in mint condition...worth $1200 by itself. He said the lens looks great too but he didn't take it off...I want to inspect it myself...have no idea what a mint condition lens is worth...tried to look on ebay, but, not sure if I trust everyone out there!

There's a 50mm lens on KEH for $286 that is in excellent condition. Their excellent condition often means something is mint or close to. $1200 seems high unless you have the boxes, papers, case, and stuff.
