Nikon S3 vs. Hasse X-pan

OK so i can't buy Hasse because i need to buy the camera in Moscow. and i can't find one there. I can't buy from ebay because i'll pay 50% tax here in Israel and the camera the S3 and the hasse will coast Lot of money i doesn't want to pay for them:(
So in Moscow i found Ziess Ikon with biogon 35mm f/2 body about $1444 and lens $950. And i found Bessa R3A +/- $800 with 40 f/1.4 lens.

Don's advice is very sound about the Zeiss Ikon and the 35/2 lens - you can always add other lenses later on.

good luck and enjoy shooting :)

NIKON KIU You can't compare a Nikon F2/F3/F4 with the rangefinders in terms of built...Rangefinders are just too delicate said:

KIU where do you come up with this? Try banging your F 2/3/4 hard and see the mirror go out of alignment. KIU I've shot profesionally with M's and Nikon F2/3/4 cameras for almost forty years and both have their durability issues. I started as a PJ and shot more rolls through F's and M's than you've shot frames in a lifetime. M Leicas and Nikon Rf and SLR's were the standards of journalists in Viet Nam. Both held up extremely well. I still use M's for documentary work and both F2's and Nikkormat FTN's. One is about as rugged as the other in my book. There's certainly nothing delicate about the Leica M's.

Enjoy it! And do buy at least a light tripod. You'll find you want it from time to time. I always had fantasies that someone would gin up a Leica-to-XPan adapter -- that would have been, in many ways, my ideal camera. The XPan has a great viewfinder and you could have kept your Hassie glass for the pano-shots.
