Nikon S4 on Marktplaats

The same guy has been trying to sell a FED-2 kit for EUR 295 for over two years now and when I friendly pointed out he was priced way too high I was bombarded with e-mails telling me to mind my own business since he had been doing taxations all his life, yadayadayada.

His FED-2 kit still is priced EUR 295:eek:

Unfriendly stubborn fellow, unwilling to adjust price. Be warned!

This is an S3 though. Not an S4. The S4 is more of a collector's item and that's reflected in pricing. 1000 Euro for an S4 is not out of line. Its about what they sell for in Japan.

For a truly mint S4 with the three 35-50-105 frames (although rare those models do exist) I'd like very much dealing with a spouse or family members who have no idea of the value of the disceased person's gear.

:D

Especially if the widow is still young and pretty. :D :D :D

There is a 8/10 condition S4 priced at 800 euro here.

I was unaware of sellers way of doing business. Sorry to have bothered you with the link.

Jim

Don't be, I put up the info for prospect buyers, just so they know in advance. It's a nice camera and if the seller indeed is unfriendly or hard to deal with, people now at least know!

If it's priced too high to buyers likings then it will likely be online for years to come, so we can all admire it for a long time...:D

No, it's interesting. It got me thinking about an S4, and whether I should buy one. Limited availability and resultant higher prices have put me off so far.

I looked the S4 up on the head bartenders Camquest site which I hadn't done in ages and found this

"The S4 is often considered a "stripped down" S3 or SP. Yet with its manually reset frame counter, absence of self timer, and 50 / 105 brightlines without parallax corrected framelines, and improved shutter, it's just as logical to think of the S4 as a improved S2! "

Maybe it's the perfect 50mm shooter. Anyone here who has used them/likes using them?

Yup,

The whole English text in the ad was just cut and pasted from the CameraQuest website... Boo!

Two S4's - the black one is a Shintaro Special as there was no black S4's made - the chrome one is a "regular" one. I find that the focussing patch of the S4 is a bit more indistinct than on the S3/S2.
They are mainly used with 50's on them - or as in this case, with the 105's.

Acquired from Yahoo Japan, this is the earliest serial number I have seen on a Nikon S4, it seems the number is from the early batches of S3!

I wonder about the number of frame lines in the viewfinder.
