a canon p might be do-able if they had some ftb bodies hanging around some old warehouse.
it 's a pretty simple camera.

I had a reissue Strat once; it was a nice guitar but I never thought of it as anything more than a "fake" (albeit a nice fake🙂). I'm afraid that I would feel the same way about any reissue camera. I prefer to find a nice original and go with restoration, if necessary. Long live Henry Scherer, eBay, and Contaxes!😀 😀 😀

My SP's are all currently loaded... and one S3... but not the S4... Why don't more people use these cameras? Can't figure it out myself! It isn't because they take lousy pictures or are hard to use!

See what y'all think of my theory about these Nikon reissues:
It's not so much that Nikon is building these things to cash in on the collector market.
Rather, I think that even though most of their product line now is electronic cameras built on automated assembly lines, they still need to keep a core group of expert technicians and assemblers to handle spare-parts runs for older cameras, exotic and custom work, etc.
So, in between special runs, how do you amortize the cost of the machinery and keep and those highly-skilled techs happy and motivated? Well, one way would be to build limited editions of cool, prestigious stuff, such as S3s and SPs, no?
I know that if I were a camera-factory shop rat, I'd be pretty charged up about working on a project like that.
The implication here is that probably not a lot of other camera companies have, or need to have, a cluster of old-school skilled workers and the associated equipment, so they wouldn't necessarily have either the capability or the interest Nikon has in doing these things.
PS -- Yes, it's expensive, but if I had the money, I'd buy one like a shot. And yes, I'd run film through it!

He had never seen pictures from one. His comment was "pretty good pictures! No wonder people like them" Kind of sad when such fine instruments are worth more as an investment than performing their intended function. The dealer always gave me first shot and better prices on his gear as he liked the fact that they would get used.

K. I'll get one. Someday. I just hope there are lenses available. I didn't like the fact that the S3 was rereleased, but with only a lens that wasn't sold separately, and worse, no other new ones were released.
Now that CV has quit making lenses in Nikon/Contax mount, lenses are going to be tight.
I just hope that they make more lenses. I want one. Always wanted an SP. I'd even put up with the shutter noise... The reason I got rid of my S2. My KIEV'S were quieter and felt far more substantial. Took "nice enough" pictures, but was lots of money wrapped up in a camera that was no more reliable than an Oleg tuned Kiev, and took no better pictures than the chrome CZJ coated f/1.5 Sonnar (Now, Voigtlander Prominent Nokton f/1.5)
I want the SP because of high quality finder- better in the ways important to me than the Leicas I've owned... Especially important with the wide angle finder and the hard-selectable frame-lines (and the 1:1 finder, of course)

JD: Lenses may be old, but I have never had a problem getting lenses. I have paid as little as $43 for a user 13.5cm F3.5 that has been used here to a high of $300 for an 8.5cm F2. I also have the 10.5cm F2.5, 3.5cm F2.5, and 5cm F1.4 and F2. They go for less than the same lens in LTM.
The F1.1 is a monster with 9 elements and a T-number that cries for multi-coating. It is no sharper than the 50mm F0.95 Canon and sells for almost 10 times as much money. The maligned Nikkor 55mm F1.2 multicoated version is sharper and has a faster T-stop.

Is there a 55 f/1.2 for the "S-mount?"
Heck, I liked the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 I had, so it's not that big a deal for another 1/2 stop.

Agree that the Canon 7 is a very useable beast, that idea about relaunching it has been also discussed some times on PN.
Now I'm thinking that we could in fact create a brand name and design our 'perfect' RF, then find a suitable popular SLR body to start with (FM3a?) and suggest that to some big fish.

The FM/FE chassis is almost the same size as the SP. The SP fits right into the case made for the FE2. It would be nice, but I doubt that it will happen. I am thankful that the SP is in production again. Just the thought of a 1957 camera (my Birth) being put back into production is great. Maybe I will save for one for my 50th Birthday. May not take it to the beach like I do my "regular SP", but I will use it.
If this one does have a cloth shutter in favor of the Titanium, it is to make the shutter quieter. The cloth shutter is not as loud as the metal one.

I've just printed a glossy paper copy of a nice photo I found on the internet on my trusty Epson 440 and it's indeed a beauty, would hang it on the wall with the legend 'that's what you're working for' 😀
