Nikon SP rangefinder and W-nikkor.c 2.8cm 3.5...

So I have had my rangefinder since I was given it last year. I always used the 3.5cm lens and finally decided to take the 2.8cm out of the case and use it. Well, it seems as if the 2.8cm is for the wrong mount? I have pics and maybe you guys can take pity on me to help me out. The pictures of the lens are here: https://imgur.com/gallery/4k8qq

Your 2.8cm is in Leica thread mount. Harder to find and worth more than the same lens in Nikon S mount. Now you need a Leica to go with your Nikon SP. Joe

Wow that is crazy! Seriously? I was looking at the MIR site and thought it looked like the lens, but it came with the SP which is confusing.

This one was listed in the classifieds here, but ended up selling on eBay for $295.

Luckily no engraving on this one. It seems to be in great shape, glass is clear, no scratches or corrosion.

No need to get a Leica. The lens will work just as well on a Canon P (Nikon lens on a Canon body - now that will confuse people!) or one of the myriad of other non-Leica LTM bodies.

That is interesting you should mention that, because on the outside of the case for this lens it says for Canon written on a piece of tape(I thought it was a mistake). What Canon body would suggest I get?

If you want to stick with a little more "stock" kit, get a Tower 35. They are usually excellent Barnack copies and came new with Nikon lenses.
Really, any screwmount rangefinder will work fine but you'll have to get the 28mm accessory viewfinder for composition. This is where a newer Bessa comes in though they are a little more expensive than the classic Barnack copy.
That 28 is a great lens.

The Canon P is a good choice these days for a newbie to LTM cameras. They are easy to load for beginners and inexpensive. The Bessa R is also a great choice and it has a good meter, but they cost more. You can use either one of these without a 28mm finder, although the finder helps. Inexpensive 28mm finders can be found these days on eBay.

The Canon 7 is also a good inexpensive, reliable LTM body that is easy to use.

Owen, I would sell the lens (try here on RFF with some high quality pictures of the lens), then be patient and find a 2.8cm lens in Nikon S mount to use on your Nikon SP.

You will likely end up with a little money in your pocket and can use the lesson your SP with the internal wide angle finder without having to source an external finder to boot.

It will also work the same on the SP as your 3.5cm lens (and it can be focussed nicely with the focus wheel too).

This lens is so tiny and light, it is just wonderful to have it in a small pocket with you and pop it on the SP whenever you feel like it.
It also shares the same deep rear cap with your 3.5cm lens so you are not ending up hunting for the right cap when switching lenses.

Of course when you are a several camera shooter guy thats another story - but then again I'd rather stick with the Nikon S mount anyway and source a second Nikon RF ;-)

The only downside to the Nikon S mount version of the lens as I see is the aperture tab being just around the front element (a pita if you plan to use filters and change aperture).

And while you're at it, find a lens with black trim, the all chrome lenses are too early for Nikon SP.

Does your SP have titanium shutter curtains?
