Nikon SP Repairs

I have an SP original (not a remake) #620XXXX.
The rewind shaft has fractured and thus doesn't engage the rewind fork when you turn the crank.
I need to find a repairs person to complete this job, as my tech says that he cant get into the shaft area -if anyone knows how to get in then let me know also...

I've got the repair manual at home. I seem to recall that the shaft is geared, to clear the rangefinder/viewfinder optics. It isn't a straight-through shaft. I'll check tonight.

Pete Smith or Stephen Gandy (www.cameraquest.com) can likely do the repair.

Just in case anyone thinks Ross Yerkes can fix this issue with the SP, he represented nodifinitive knowledge other then what I know when I spoke with him, though he said he has worked on other Nikon RF bodies.

There is replacement gear available in Japan, seen them offered on Yahoo Japan Auctions.

Ahhh, just realised there's two threads on this problem. I just posted a response in that thread (link here).

Doesn't surprise me that the problem occurred on an early s/n SP. Nikon used a two piece gear in the early SPs that wasn't as rigid as it should have been, and switched to a one piece gear on later SPs because of the problem described in this thread. Not sure when the changeover took place but I have confirmed that 6200308 had a two piece gear and 6216326 had a one piece gear, so the changeover occurred inbetween these serial numbers.

Here's a photo of the SP finder with the gear I'm talking about (one piece in this case) poking through it (far right in the photo).
