Nikon SP

Hi all,
I just receive my birthday present I made to myself, a brand new Nikon SP limited edition, but I wonder why I cannot put the winding lever in its place??
I can't put it back, and I'm afraid of forcing and breaking something.
Other than that, everything seems to be working perfectly. Does somebody have an idea?

It looks that something is wrong. Can you tension and fire the shutter?

Yes I can, everything seems to works except that the lever cannot be put in place against the body?? weird

Sometimes this asks for a little more force; I have no experience on the SP but I have an F.

I have the same SP 2005. It should be flush with the body, and it takes a little pushing to get over the hard point.

I would wrap the lever into some felt or rubber (innertube) and push a little harder. If this does not work, I would bring the camera to a professional repairman.

These things should not be forced. There may be a little resistance, but that is it.
I'd have it checked out.

on the picture from the seller, the lever was perfectly in place, and the camera is brand new, but I can't remember how it was when I took it out of the box ?

If the shutter is fully cocked and it fires at the correct shutter speed then the lever should go back. I seen old SPs that lost the spring tension for the wind lever to go back but the lever can still be placed manually back.

Since this is an unused newish 2005 SP I would take it back to where you bought it from and get it fixed or price refunded.

After seeing the pictures by Richard Haw I think that it is possible that the lever has been removed by someone but that it has been replaced wrong.

I would give it into the hands of a very good repairman. Or give it back. Even the smallest scar would be unfortunate.

Just checked my SP 2005.

After shutter is released and winding the lever, it would look like this:

Applying a bit of force clockwise (there is some resistance from the winding lever but not very strong), it would then look like this:

(Btw I also checked my 1962 SP, the resistance is near zero, but that 62 SP must have been used at least 50,000 times before I got it from a JP journalist.)

So the lever was in the correct position when you received the camera??? In that case, stop babying the camera and push a little harder. You can't possibly damage anything.

With some regular use the resistance when pushing the lever into the stowed position will decrease.

first of all congrats on this gem of camera set!

I had the same on my set years ago, when I first had received it, a little 'more force than you'd think' solved my problem, initially I also didn't dare to apply force, then the local repairer told me to just apply force, I did so, after a few repetitions it should smooth out and works perfectly since then.

as my camera when I first gotten it, it sat too long in a box imo. and is probably completely unused.

all at your own risk of course, with mine it worked, just dare to 'PUSH' if you're unsure bring it to a local repair shop, they might just re-confirm what I just wrote.

Finally, I locked the body in a vice, and I gave a good hammer blow on the lever. Now it's in place ;-))

No, seriously, with a deep breath I forced a little more and the lever placed himself correctly, I think like some who have suggested that since the camera is new, I just had to force a bit.
I just finish the first roll and will process it this week
