the finder shoe gives a different placement on the top of the camera, the contax version foot is about 5mm longer then the nikon version.

I never know that. Looking at the type 2 i've been using on my Contax IIa it is cleraly not a Contax version: not as long, no cross bar and no notch for the shoe stop pin. Does it make any difference in use?
