Nikon Zfc Battery Life

In my constant quest to find the lightest weight camera "system" for lugging around, I've been experimenting with a Nikon Zfc. Love the small form factor, and the fact that it feels the same size as my Nikon FM2N. And been mating it with some manual focus glass from the early 1960's.

What amazed me was I was shooting an event last Sunday, it was a long event, and I made over 780 images. At the end of the day, the original battery still showed full charge. Now I know it's not really fully charged, but it was going strong, after many hours, and many snaps. I found that pretty amazing.

Thanks Tim. I am with you on finding the lightest weight camera system. I hope to try a Zfc soon. I keep looking at my FM2 thinking, wouldn't a digital version be fun!

It's a fun camera Lou, just keep in mind that it's APS-C and not full frame. And I don't know if you like manual focus lenses, but that's all I'm using on mine, with the appropriate adapters, and I love it.

Works well with rangefinder lenses in Leica M and LTM mount, because they fit in close to the body like Nikon F mount lenses fit on the FM2.

Treat yourself to the new TTArtisans 23mm F1.4 manual lens on your ZFC for $99.00. It is outstanding on my Z6 even in the 10 MP DX mode. Its a well built lens and small size.

My friend just got a lightly used Nikon Z6. I tried an experiment,: I bought a cheap ($15) M Mount lens to Z Body adapter and slapped one on my CV M mount lenses ( the lovely 35/2). WOW! The Z6 and CV 35/2 performed beautifully.😎

The Zfc is a fun little camera, with great image quality and a light, compact size. The kit lens (16-50) is remarkably good. It is as good as any other mirrorless camera when it comes to manual focus lenses. My Voigtlander 40/1.2 is pretty awesome on the Zfc. The Viltrox AF lenses are really good, too, and cheap. Only downside (which may or may not be important to you) is the sensor size, APS-C.

As an aside on the 16-50, it works just as well on the Z7 with no vignetting that I can see.

I'm still considering getting the Zfc to go along with my Z50 and Z5. I got the Z5 so I wouldn't have to do the mental computations every time I mounted an adapted lens, such as my LTM and M series, and also to scan slides. I tend to use the Z50 more since my right wrist has deteriorated to a point where it's either wear a brace or get the joint fused. I'm a bit disappointed in Nikon not supplying the hoods with the DX lenses (I still can't get one for my 18-140), and that they might not have plans to expand the Z DX line. I'm quite happy with the results from the Z50, but think the G lenses would handle better with the Zfc and FTZII (I'm not at all enamored with the tripod mount on the FTZ).

The Nikon Zfc is a camera that I like to use. I like the way it feels in my hands (I have a SmallRig grip on mine). It's mated with a set of Zuiko lenses from the early 1960's. No zooms, no auto-focus. Just a sleek, compact, picture making machine. Everything is set to manual, so it's like using my Nikon FM2N, with the advantage of it being digital. I have the rear LCD turned in, so no chimping with the rear screen. The AE-L/AF-L button is set to zoom, so I can check critical focus in a flash.

Unfortunately there isn't a lot of support for the Nikon Zfc RAW files yet, but I import the RAW files and immediately send them thru Adobe's DNG Converter, then process them in RAW Power on my Mac.

It's just a really straightforward process. And the small size of the camera package seems to make it less intimidating to folks at the events I've been covering with it.

If you're a pixel peeper, and want the latest and greatest hyper sharp, super contrasty, top dollar glass, my set up is probably not going to satisfy you. But that's not what I am looking for, I'm enjoying the more organic look I'm getting with the set up.
