nikonos II, 35/2.5 lens

Hi,

I managed to flood the camera(by rotating the lens underwater).
I flushed the seasalt with tapwater, after 5-6 hours in the sun the camera works perfectly.

The lens on the other hand, had lots of dried salt crystals. I opened it(the four spring screws) and removed the lens assembly from the housing.
Now i cant get it back in.
HELP!

As you've probably figured out already, the two small silver 'pins' on the side of the lens assembly that control the aperture and focus need to be properly mated to the two slots inside the lens housing (you can identify them by turning the knobs on the housing). It is almost always a fiddly & frustrating endeavor, if you've not made a note of location when removing the lens assembly. The easiest way that i've found is to set the aperture to f2.5 and the focus to infinity on the lens housing, then set the aperture to wide open on the lens assembly. From there you can trial & error it into seating properly by only needing to find the location for the focus pin. Expect it to take a few (more) tries, as the pins like to move around as you attempt to install the assembly. ..hope this helps.

If the lens completely flooded, I would simply replace it with a new one.

I see only one pin(which controls the apperture). from what I gather the whole front (thinner) barell rotates in the housing, i seem to see the smell notch but cant get it to work.

Right you are. It's been a while since i've opened one up, but just did so for a better sense of what's going on. So here's what you're looking for & need to do:

First, make sure the lens is oriented so that the aperture control on the housing is on your right. Set the controls on the housing to wide open, infinity focus.

In addition to the aperture pin, there are two tabs, one of which will fit into a slot directly above the aperture pin/slot (when set wide open). The other tab is around the 4:00 position. You'll want to start seating the lens assembly at the top, in hopes of getting the aperture pin & top focus tab in correctly. Then, look for the tab at the 4:00 position that fits into a slot on the housing itself - you'll need to rotate the assembly very slightly to seat that tab.

Check to make sure it's working, then reattach mount.
