Hi all,
I have a NIKONOS V which I would enjoy using but the bright orange covering scares me.
I have looked on the web for black replacements but could not find any.
Any suggestion ?

Edit: The green covering does not please me much more. I want Black.

Did you say Nippon Kogaku
That orange covering comes pretty handy when underwater, easy to spot when camera falls out of hand.
Not many options are available since the covering is almost indestructible.
Did you try cameraleather.com? May be Morgan can be persuaded to make one for you, it's worth a try.

I was going to suggest getting the Nik V with the green covering until I saw your edit.
More importantly, I would be interested in knowing the reason why the bright orange covering "scares" you?

I only use mine above the surface now in typhoons and tropical downpours. On those days the orange colour is quite cheering!

The orange is the best part! Revel in it.

I love my Nikonos V's orange covering. It's the second best thing about it.

I had the orange one and grew to love it despite initial unease too.

I had a bright orange jumpsuit that scared the crap out of me too but after several years of electro shock therapy and time in isolation I can say I'm cured now and wear that same jumpsuit every day along with all the other inmates.

...the bright orange covering scares me.
Bad idea by Nikon, the orange covering. It's well documented that divers displaying anything orange in colour are attacked, usually within an average of 6.3 seconds, by large sharks (in the range of 8 to 15 feet), rather aggressive ones foaming at the mouth.
Much better to use the yellow covering.

There must be a lot of sharks swimming around w/ Nikonos' in their bellies.

Thanks so much for your advice. Well, by "scaring" I meant that I didn't like it too much.
However now I remember on the AWACS we had ditching inflatable rafts which were covered by some kind of purple tent that we had to mount. This purple was really strange and when you looked at it you almost got sick !
For the Nikonos I think I will peel off the orange and find something else, maybe oiled wall nut wood why not ?

How about Griptac, sold by Cameraleather.com?

Finally I ended up peeling off the orange covering and the bare body underneath looks really cool, almost like metal griptac. My wife even declared: Wow, this camera looks much better now !
